I felt like this class was fairly easy in terms of workload, however I had to cram A LOT for the exams because they required so much memorization, and preparing paragraphs to write. The workload balances out though, because there is only like 4 homework assignments which are pretty easy. My main issue with this class Is that exam grading is very dependent on which TA you have. From what I heard, people with another TA were overall getting much higher scores than ours. I honestly think I spent more time studying for the exams in this class rather than my CMSC131 class, and barely got Bs on the first two exams. She made the final an online canvas quiz, and it seemed like the grading was much more lenient, so I got an A. |

Dr. Egan is an awesome professor. She has a genuine passion for the subject and it makes the class a great experience. She is very intelligent and articulate in delivering the content. ARTH200 hooked me into the subject of history and archaeology. It was mesmerizing and I cannot recommend it enough. The TA's were also excellent. Be aware this class does require a lot of studying and memorization. |

Prof. Egan is a super understanding and passionate teacher. It's so obvious that she loves what she does, and it shines through in her lectures. I'm a computer science major, and know nothing about art or art history, but she made it so so interesting. The one important thing is to come to class and take notes, as her slides alone are not very descriptive, but she goes into great detail in lecture. Exams can be tricky at first, but she gives you the exact format of the questions. She has a very clear rubric, and if you follow the examples, the exams are honestly really easy. You basically know every question on the exam beforehand, since the only random thing is which lecture list work she will pick. One thing that helped me a lot was using quizlets for terms and dates, and practicing writing a paragraph for each lecture list work in the days leading up to the exam. The TAs are also quite friendly, and Juliet was always happy to respond to my questions. |

While professor Egan is very knowledgeable on the subject and generally nice, she expects way too much for an entry level class. You can't use your laptop to type notes, so you better be fast at handwriting notes and have legible handwriting. You have to memorize literally everything. Titles, dates, locations, meanings, features, everything in great detail for the exams. The feedback on exams is also nonexistent from the TA. Just simple minus points with no explanations of why. There also seemed to be bias between the TA's in grading. Also, even if you think discussion class is pointless, you need to go if you want to keep up your grade. You do free writes each class, and even though it's one point, you even miss one and it brings down your whole grade like a whole 3%. And try your best not to miss lecture either, you need all the information to get a decent grade on the exams. The best thing for me was having accommodations. Being able to type my notes and record lecture was the one thing that saved me. Also making quizlets for the exams was a necessity. (I recommend using Knowt instead of quizlet). If you don't have accommodations, this class is going to be super hard. Even with it, it was so hard.. Just don't expect an easy A and be ready to study endlessly. Only take this class if this subject seriously interests you. |

For a gen ed, this class was not the easiest, but I did enjoy it for the most part. Professor Egan is super passionate about the subject and I genuinely liked learning about the topics, and I'm not even a history/art buff. However, the A won't come easy. You're absolutely going to have to attend lectures, because the information in her slides is quite vague, so if you miss you're gonna have to get the notes from a friend. The exams are kind of hard, and require a lot of memorizing dates and defintions, but creating a quizlet is helpful for studying those. Overall, I'd reccomend this class to someone who is willing to put in the time and effort into studying. |

Im being so honest she is probably the best teacher I have ever had in any subject. The course material is very easy to get and she makes it so easy with her enthusiasm and genuine love and passion for the subject she is teaching. I came into this class thinking history was the most boring subject and that I would take this class as an easy GenEd. Now I look forward to this class every day and I now have a passion for the subject that Professor Egan taught. The only difficult part about this class was memorizing specific dates for your lecture list works but if you make a good quizlet this issue is no longer as difficult. Could not recommend this class more. Its relatively easy, very interesting, and Professor Egan is a wonderful and caring teacher. |

I was really worried about taking this class as I heard that you have to write a lot of notes and you have to listen carefully for things she says which could be used on the exams. But overall I enjoyed this class. I am not an artist by any means but I found this class so interesting and excited to go to the lectures each week. If you can't focus in lectures or don't go you shouldn't take this class but if you put in the work you can get an A. The TAs are very helpful (thank you Maggie) and I recommend going to office hours when the exams are close. The workload is not bad at all, you have 3 exams, a small 200-word writing assignment for each discussion that you complete before you go, and a Douglass Journal that helps to boost your grade. The exams consist of listing the title, place, and date of a work as well as its significance. Then you have a variety of terms to define, and finally, a work you haven't seen before where you will be asked questions about it. The exams are fast paced but if you are prepared you shouldn't worry. |

This class IS NOT A GEN ED. Egan makes it incredibly difficult to memorize all the significances of each work you cover per exam. The subdivisions of information is vast and the TA's treat it like life or death. They expect you to take this class like its your whole major when its merely a 200 level gen ed. I've seen 400 levels with less work which is embarrassing. Only about 40% of the test information is actually on the slides so if you miss something its extremely awkward to ask them about what you missed. If you've taken orgo 1, it's like asking Dr. Koppel or Gen chem 2 Dixon about how to do something. Avoid at all costs unless you want to work your butt off... |

Dr. Egan was a great professor! I took this course to fulfill a gen-ed requirement and ended up loving it! There is always one slide during her lecture that contains any upcoming exams or assignments, which helped me stay on track. The weekly assignments are fairly simple, and majority of the exams are based on memorization (however, you do need to know some context of the works). The class was very engaging and the course was very organized overall. |

Very knowledgeable and passionate professor. Kind of self-important and annoying. Do not take ARTH200 if you want an easy A, it's a lot of work. She talks really fast and doesn't put essential information (things that you will be asked to present during an exam) in the text on her slides. Everything she says could be on the exam and if you miss class you're completely boned. She makes you recall in which lectures she mentioned a term or piece which is just dumb in my opinion. TLDR: she's a good professor but annoying and makes her unimportant gen-ed feel like an upper-level course |

Prof Egan was awesome, she made the class enjoyable and always gave us fun facts about the pieces we were learning about. If you make quizlets and memorize meanings for the artwork, you will ace the midterm and final. She gives a lot of leeway for points on the exam as well, and also gives the opportunity for extra credit on both to earn points back. The majority of the grades are in the weekly discussion assignments. Her TA's were wonderful and incredibly helpful and understanding. Attendance is not mandatory but the notes are what you need to do well on exams so I would attend as often as you can. |

She is one of my favorite professors so far, her lectures are interesting and engaging, and genuinely enjoyable. She has great TAs and is always open to questions, and also always willing to help if needed. As long as you attend class or at least look at the slides and attend discussions this is an easy pass. Her exams are simple and aren't too difficult to prepare for, especially with the help you receive from the TA in discussion before the exam date. The slow-looking sessions are relaxed and not too high stakes, they genuinely help with identifying certain traits and help out during the unknown works. Though my memorization sucks, I was able to pass both exams by studying with flashcards and looking over the material recommended by the TAs. I hope I am able to take another history class with Professor Egan, a great professor, even if you aren't an art student I recommend taking her class to fulfill your requirement. |

Dr. Egan was awesome. I took her class as a gened and loved it. The class is heavy on memorization but it's not bad unless you really hate the material. The final and midterm were really straightforward, exactly what Dr. Egan said it would be. Section was fun and my TA was awesome (shoutout Mekayla!), homework was light and overall the workload was only a lot when studying for the midterm or final. If you get the chance to take a class with Dr. Egan and are even remotely interested in art history, take it! Dr. Egan always excited to teach and it makes her class very engaging. |

LOVED THIS CLASS! I took this class to fulfill some gen ed requirements and was so surprised by how much I ended up loving the material. There is a bunch of memorization but I really didn't think it was so bad. For the midterm and final you'll need to memorize the name, location, and date created of around 35 different artworks. Professor Egan does her best to help you memorize the terms and gives hints as to what will be on the exams. The exams aren't designed to be impossible. The discussions felt useful and my TA was great. If you were a percy jackson kid you'll like this class. |

Amazing teacher, the lectures are always fun and easy to follow and the TA discussions are really helpful as well. The class structure is all found in modules and everything can be accessed. The only thing I will note is that you will have to memorize lots of things (some definitions, dates, art work, etc). But if you don't mind or like art, this is the class to take. Not much workload, basically an assignment due every week in discussion (easy work) and 2 tests (midterm and final). Really easy to study for, just make a quizlet and you will be fine. Ended up getting an 102 and 104 on the tests. Love the class and teacher! |

I personally loved Professor Egan, she does a really good job with her power points and hinting at what is important on the exams. There are three exams none are cumulative. If you like art history definitely take her class, she keeps lectures very interesting. If art history and memorizing dates are not your thing this class will be somewhat difficult for you. But she is by far one of my favorite professors!! |

This class is a pretty solid choice for an elective (as it can get both your DVUP and DSHU done). The class consisted of 2 lectures along with 1 discussion per week, where the lectures were basically her just reading her own powerpoints and maybe sometimes adding a few minor details. She is pretty kind and occasionally makes some interesting real-world connections and takes questions during lectures if you have any. She is also honest enough to say "I don't know" when she is not sure about something and will usually do some research to make sure the information she gives is correct. The discussion section days consisted of doing a free-write exercise for completion and an attendance grade and usually just talked about the same thing as a lecture or a fun activity. Half the entire course consisted of a Fredrick Douglass statue where we had a major project consisting of 45% of our final grade. Essentially 30% of our grade was just going to the statue and writing about it and how it looked and doing this weekly throughout the entire course. Assuming you did this was an easy completion grade. At the end of the semester, however, we need to write a 3-4 page paper on it which can be time-consuming, but assuming you know how to write a decent paper and follow the page requirement, then that too should be a free grade. The other 55% of the grade came from 10% attendance from discussions, and 45% from the tests. Tests were usually 50ish multiple-choice problems followed by 3 paragraph response style questions that had to do with important sculptures or artworks from the time period. The 50-minute time limit and these 3 questions were significantly hard but she specifically tells us which things they would be. She makes a list of all the vocabulary words on the multiple-choice and the list of possible artworks for the written responses, so the tests were really fair and consistent with what she teaches and posts or discusses in lecture (give or take a few multiple-choice questions and the fast time limit.) Make a GroupMe and exchange/create quizlets for every single test and study them consistently and every test should be an A or B and if you did all the other assignments your final grade would end up as an A. To sum up, she's a pretty good teacher, you could get away with skipping lectures occasionally if you view the PowerPoint at home, as long as you take lots of notes and use some sort of studying tool to memorize the terms. This class is definitly possible to get a good grade in. |

ARTH200 is certainly not an easy A class if you're looking for one. If your life doesn't depend on this class, meaning it doesn't have anything to do with your major, do not take it as an elective. Go for something more fun. The class can be super boring. You have to memorize a ton of useless information like the height of a particular statue made 2000 years ago. Egan gave us two response papers on two articles that were tough to read and very unengaging, and the second one was 20 pages! You will also have weekly quizzes that aren't easy to take. One final thing, she had recorded her voice over Powerpoint slides, which was a nice thing to do and I appreciate her time for that, but you CANNOT listen to a prerecorded voice on X2 speed on Powerpoint. (Super boring sometimes) I personally had no fun in this class and took an L by taking it. |
