Ustaadha Dina is awesome - she's really nice and generally good at explaining things and making everything interesting. Occasionally she didn't explain rules clearly enough, I think because she's a native speaker and doesn't always understand how hard it is for us, but this wasn't a huge problem. One thing to think about before choosing professors is what dialect you want to take. Dina is Egyptian so she works with the maSri (Egyptian) dialect in class. If I had thought things through more at the time, I would have taken Arabic with a professor who spoke the shaami (Levantine) dialect because that's what I want to focus on. Ustaadha Dina is a great teacher, but might not be what exactly what you're looking for if you know that you want to learn the Levantine dialect. She's a pretty harsh grader but I think that's true across the department; she just has very high standards (won't scale a test even if no one got A's), but she seems to be pretty fair in her grading. |

Horrible woman, She needs to be taken elsewhere. She is the kind that had obvious favorites and treats everyone else like crap. I personally would never take a class with her again. I hope she sees this review and sees she is unwanted and hated by one of her former students. i can honestly say she was the worst teacher i have ever had and do no like her. i wish i could tell her how much i hated her. |

she was awesome! she put fair things on the exams and she went over everything in class so that you understand things. non-native arab speakers: a bit of writing in arabic is involved but it is manageable. she's a great teacher! the homeorks are easy and she grades fair. |
