If I could rate Professor Ernst higher than 5 stars I would. He is probably the best teacher I have had at Smith. You can tell he actually cares about his students and enjoys the topics that he teaches in class. He makes difficult topics seem super easy because he explains them in simple terms and gives very good examples. If you come to class and do the homeworks you will do well. |

Lectures are SO interesting - I was never bored in this class and I never felt the urge to skip. The homeworks are fairly easy and Professor Ernst gives you a week to do them. The hardest part is that if you skip, there's basically nothing you can do to catch up other than get the notes from a friend because the Panapto recordings are horrible (bad audio and zero board visibility). The slides that he posts are similar to the class notes but not the same, and I found so many mistakes in them when it came to studying for the exam which also sucked. However, he curves a lot and he makes the course material very interesting. Plus, he's super responsive and willing to help out. He reviewed the previous lectures material for 10 minutes every class which I also really liked, so I'd recommend taking this class with him. |

Pretty good teacher and knows what he talks about. I did poorly in the class because I did not study for exams, and I missed a lot of lectures due to being sick. I ended up with around a 69% and the curve in this class landed my final grade as a C, so overall I feel like most good students in the class would have a high B or A after the curve. |

Explains concepts extremely well in class and the class before midterm/final is a review of the material. Provides one practice exam, and gives ~5 HWs over the semester which aren't bad at all. He states upfront that his exams are difficult, but that he curves the class so many get an A (also a cheat sheet of any size is allowed on the exams). A great professor, I would highly recommend taking him. |

Professor Ernst is extremely knowledgeable about microstructure, you can tell he's put a lot of time into researching this subject. He is very kind and approachable. Some of the concepts can be a bit dense, but he will never get annoyed when you ask questions, and will do his best to break down the topics. Do note that this course is very programming-heavy. If you have not taken BUFN640 or BUFN650, make sure you brush up on your Python skills (notably frameworks like Pandas and Numpy). |

Ernst is the boy. His notes are a little messy but he takes time to make sure everyone gets it you just have to speak up if he's going too fast. His office hours are super helpful he takes the time to make sure you understand everything you might have missed during class. |

Probably the best professor I've had at UMD. If you have the chance to take him, do it and enjoy every lecture... absolutely brilliant |

THE GOAT. I can honestly say that Professor Ernst is one of the best teachers I've had in my life. He makes sure to go over the foundations of every topic before diving into the more intuitive work. He is always open to discuss any issues you may have and he grades veryyyyyy leniently (the curves in this class is usually the average being an A). The class is easily digestible and I honestly learned a lot - I was almost never bored in class like I am in many other classes. It was a great experience and I would definitely take him again if possible. |

Professor Ernst is probably your best bet when taking this class (if he is teaching it). He is really flexible and nice, he records lectures and uploads them. Due to the nature of the class and how some of the subjects are dense and complicated for undergrad, Professor Ernst makes it clear that you should not stress about his class as he provides a generous curve. Overall, he is a great professor and is knowledgeable on the topic as it is part of his research. Definitely someone that is approachable outside of class as well for help and even for discussion on stocks if you're curious about them. Would highly recommend him for this class. |
