Did not expect to get an A+. I guess he grades very generously. The lectures are pretty much useless but definitely attend review days. He basically gives half the answers

i did not pay attention one bit during lecture. and I did not pass that threshold you need to not take the final I think. but I still ended with an A because I worked really hard with my group to do well on our presentation. and I cant remember if I still had to take the final or not... but if I did, I think I did well.

Evans is a good guy and is incredibly knowledgeable as a lobbyist and lawyer but it's kind of hard to get information from the course because he talks about his own personal experiences a lot. The course lacks a lot of structure but it is not difficult and is basically no work. He's good if you're looking for an easy A course but not if you're actually trying to learn something about policy.

Literally go to that once a week lecture and take notes during review session. He literally will give you the answers for the exam. Easiest A+ in my life and you actually learn some interesting stuff about how potential and recent bills.

Honestly, I took this class recently, and I enjoyed it. Gerry is a really chill dude and makes lectures engaging. Class was also insanely easy, I don't know what these reviews were saying before I registered. He legit gives you the exam questions and answers during the review session, so just fully memorize them. That's what I did. A midterm, a project that everyone who attended got a 100% in, and a final that you don't even have to take if you get a 100 or higher on the midterm (he gives extra credit). Take this class, I enjoyed it. Just actually go to lecture and don't get lazy like half of our class did. If you go to the one lecture a week and pay attention, you will easily get a 100 in this class.

Fake static. It is very unlikely to get an A in the class. Boring class and teacher. Don't take it. As someone commented below, DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE GRADES ON OURUMD!

PLEASE explain to me how this man teaches at this school. He honestly was the WORST extracurricular professor of my time at UMD. He never puts grades on ELMs even though there were few, his grading scheme is honestly based on if he likes you or not, and he is very unfair and prejudice. Seriously, we had only THREE assignments all year if you don't count participation clickers, and he NEVER put grades up. He also lies about the grade you get overall. On the midterm I got a C, on the presentation I got an A, and on the final I got an A. I also had 100% participation. Explain to me how that translates into a B overall. He is a terrible professor, we learned nothing, he would constantly take phone calls in class, he let us out an hour early, we would always be on Facebook or online during his class, people signed in each other and some people didn't go to class, and overall the class was a joke. He also always spent about half an hour talking about his family in class. I learned everything for each exam (we only had a mid term and final) about 4 hours before class. Your grade at the end, is very unclearly determined. This man should stick to his work as a snotty, manipulative lobbyist. He does not belong at UMD where he screws up students' extracurricular GPAs for no reason. I honestly regret taking this class. A friend convinced me due to the "joke" nature of the class. Be forewarned: your grade is not set in stone. You could be an A student in it like me and receive a B or worse... Also the way he chooses TAs is completely biased and unfair. I do not recommend this class at all. Seriously: RUN away now. I also have a theory that he only gives A's to his favorites or maybe those whose families contribute to his lobbyist campaigns... just a theory.

DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE GRADES ON OURUMD! Yes, this is the most bs class that I've ever taken, and requires very little effort. He lets us out of class after an hour and the entire class is based on 3 short chapters of an online "text" he emails out in the beginning of the semester. His lectures are pretty boring. Everyone is either talking or on facebook during lecture. The class consists of 2 straightforward, factual exams, and a group presentation that you work on with about 10 other people. Obviously, I registered for this class seeing 90% As on OurUMD. However, how he does grades is very unclear. He NEVER puts up any grades on elms. I got an A on both of the exams, and not sure about my presentation grade, and got a B. My friends in the class, who got D's on the exams and were in the same presentation group as me got a B as well. So I have no idea how he graded. This is the first non-science class that I've taken at UMD that I have not gotten an A in. So do not be mislead by the grade distribution.

Great guy. If you are interested in gov/pol and/or want to be a lobbyist this is a great class to take. You also really have to try to not get an A in the class
