Dr. Feldman is very sweet and thoughtful. She is willing to help and responsive to emails and student questions. 201 was an extremely light load, and she had extremely flexible due dates and completion-based grading. However. My academic experience in HDCC201 was extremely disjointed and strange due to inconsistency and, at times, simple disorganization on her part. We had mostly asynchronous classes, which is fine because the entire class is based around developing our Capstone proposal. There was no communication about where the first class was, even hours before it was supposed to take place. After bringing it to Dr. Lu's attention, we received an email shortly after about the class being on Zoom. Despite the lack of in-person classes, Dr. Feldman also graded every assignment on completion and offered no specific feedback or guidance on drafts unless you specifically went to her and asked questions--something that's difficult to do when you might have no idea that something is completely off base. I understand capstone proposal ideas are very open-ended and up to the student, but even when I asked for specific feedback, I often received niche advice about phrasing in the proposal rather than things to consider or feedback on the idea. Communication was a frequent issue. Plans or changes of format for classes were sometimes posted late or as modules (not as announcements). I think in general, the course could have greatly benefited from some sort of chart or schedule indicating the format of classes or due dates. In addition, she often seemed not to be in contact with our program director--there were two assignments requiring proof of attendance at certain DCC events, which were turned into extra credit after students spoke with our director about being required to attend for their class and needing to leave early or taking up RSVPs for people who wanted to attend/could attend the whole time.
