Finsterbusch is a nice enough guy, but his readings are horribly outdated and he's a boring lecturer. Having said that, it's incredibly easy to get an 'A' in his class. All you have to do is praise his work (which he assigns and spends most of the semester teaching). Seriously. It's impossible to overpraise him. I made a bunch of mistakes on my midterm (for example, I constantly attributed quotes and ideas to the wrong authors), but because I stuck in mindless praise for Finsterbusch's work throughout my essays, I got a 'B'. I'm pretty sure this technique helped me in my final paper and the final exam, too. So take this class if you know how to suck up and are looking for an easy 'A'. |

All who commented before me are dumb...this guy is old, he is boring, and he makes it hard to attend class...BUT he is the man. He doesnt care if you show up or not, as long as you semi-know what your talking about he gives you a good grade. He feels that its YOUR job to attend class and its YOUR education, he could care less whether you go or not. So dont bash him saying hes boring. I just took his class and yeah i went like half the time, and it was boring, but he knows what hes talking about if you just listen. This is a good guy and is a good teacher, ya'll just dont respect or appreciate your own education enough, therefor dont respect him enough. |

I am absolutely offended that the University of Maryland prides itself on being an elite public university and tries to pass off this course as "education." This course is a complete joke. The professor rambles for an 1 1/2 hours two times a week about material completely irrelevant to sociology. Attendance is atrocious in class, the times I actually decided to waste my time by going to class there was always less than 10 out of 30 students present. I received a B on the midterm, in which I did not study or do any required readings. I simply rambled writing down senseless gibberish. The professor, who clearly needs to retire, did not even comment on my work and simply gave me a grade I absolutely did not deserve. I laughed out loud when I got that exam back. I feel robbed of my education by being required to take this class and the University of Maryland should be ashamed that this class even exists. Utterly disgraceful. |

HORRIBLE CLASS. Loves to hear himself talk, and what he says is only interesting to himself. The first review summed up the class perfectly. This class may count for multiple requirements within the sociology major, but DO NOT TAKE IT. One of the worst classes I have taken at UMD, and I am a second semester senior. Only teaches from his own papers and puts down all other ideas. It seems like the only way to get an A is to praise his work, even if you disagree. I stopped attending lecture after the first few weeks because I became so aggrivated. The only good thing is that he is not a super strict grader, but I think he does this because he knows everyone would fail on his standards. |

This guy is older and more boring than dirt. The subject material is very interesting, but he presents in the most boring way. He is like 80 years old and just needs to retire. Don't take a class with him! |
