Lectures were online twice a week. While Professor Friedman is very knowledgeable on the topic, most lectures are boring and do not have a continuous point to them. Also, she posts nothing on ELMS. No grades or assignments, everything is through email. It is not necessary to do the readings, although they do add substance to the lectures. Also, there are 3 papers throughout the semester but no rubric and you get the prompt a week before it is due. Her grading seems to come out of nowhere when the prompts are very vague and there seems to be no rhyme or reason to what she expects from the answers.

This class was fully online and had one lecture per week for 2.5 hours. It was nice for someone who likes online classes but it was very long and hard to stay engaged so late in the day. This class consisted of one presentation one reading, 3 4-5 pages essay responses to a prompt given the week before, and a final essay. The readings are long, but overall an interesting topic as the environment is relative every day and everywhere. It was annoying that prompts were only given out the week before the essay was due but everything you needed for the essays was in the readings and as long as you did the research and answered the prompt question effectively it was an easy A. The last presentation you make is on the topic of your research paper and you just present an explanation on slides in a much shorter version of what you are doing for your final paper to your peers. She does not take strict attendance but notices who is on and who is not. Come to the lecture prepared because she likes discussion and gets sad when nobody participates. There are also discussion groups sometimes during lectures so it is important to have knowledge on that week's topic. Overall, I think I would have liked this class better if it was twice a week and shorter because it was just hard to stay focused for 2.5 hours. The professor is so nice and does care about you understanding the topic so definitely put in some effort. If you do, it is an easy A and you can get a lot from it.
