Good pace, generous grading. The TAs are hit or miss. Final project relatively easy and pretty fun. Good all around. |

Dr. Gensheimer is a good professor and genuinely enjoys teaching however sometimes her quizzes pulled from information that was not taught in lecture or in the textbook. There are no exams just bi-weekly online, take-home quizzes and 2 writing assignments that make up most of your grade. The TAs are a little picky and will take points off for things that weren't on the rubric but overall it is not too hard if you go to lecture and participate in discussion. |

Easy A the only part that can drop your grade is if your TA is stingy with certain stuff. graded a little harsh but not unfairly. Also not a lot of work very chill gen Ed |

LOVE Dr. Gensheimer. Her lectures are so informative. She'll have lecture slides with important images to know, and then she'll just talk about each piece and its history with ease. It's really impressive. There are readings each week, which could take me about an hour to complete depending on my pace and how many pages there were. But she gives you key artworks to know, so it's easy to skim and find the information you need to know. There are no exams, just quizzes for each unit (online that you complete on your own time) and two reports. The first one is an analysis of an artwork, and the second is creating your own artwork of a person (you can pick whoever) and writing a report about how you incorporated 6 elements of ancient art that we discussed in class. That's the biggest grade, but it's broken into three parts (outline, draft, and final) so it's easy to stay on top of. I went to her for office hours one time about the project, and she was so friendly and helpful. Also, she's VERY organized, so it's easy to keep onto of the work. I 100% recommend this class (I took it as a gened) |

I really like Dr. Gensheimer! She clearly loves her subject and puts in the time to make her lectures engaging and relevant. She doesn't seem to appreciate questions during her lecture, as they disrupt her flow, but happily takes them after class. The homework for ARTH200 is light and if you pay attention in class and take notes the assignments will be a breeze for you. It would be pretty hard to miss an assignment because she pulls up ELMS at the start of every class, and the requirements for every assignment are carefully outlined in the detailed rubrics that she provides. My one complaint is that she didn't really talk at all about the persecution of Christians by the Pagan Roman Empire in its early years, but other than that she seems fairly unbiased. She didn't try to paint any of the main religions as a "bad guy". |

This class is a good, easy gen ed filler. No exams, just 3 papers which she guides you through, mandatory discussion, and online quizzes every week or so based on discussion (these were easy, I would take them right after discussion and I always did well. This class can be a little boring sometimes, but coming from someone who had no prior interest in ancient art, it was not that bad and I would recommend. I will say after the first lecture I was a little over whelmed; however, it really doesn't end up being as much work as she makes it seem. Also, dont bother reading the textbook, everything she wants you to know she goes over in lecture. |

Never EVER take this class. I was a student who came to class, participated in discussion, did well all semester, to then had their grade drop because of an issue outside of their control and the professor and TA were so unhelpful. Honestly, the class is easy but the grading on the assignments is so harsh for no reason. Also, depending on your TA, the weekly "participation" is so subjective that you can go from getting 10/10's to randomly losing points for no reason. Yeah the actual lectures are fine but this class will make your semester hell. |

Dr Gensheimer is a very knowledgeable professor and her lectures are genuinely interesting and engaging. I can say that before taking her course, I had no interest in ancient architecture, however, I can now say I look forward to going to this class. Course load is not too bad, there are weekly assigned readings and quizzes and then 3ish writing assignments throughout the course (no exams). My only complaint is discussions are mandatory attendance |

Good teacher. Very invested into her career. Doesn't record lectures so you'll have to attend them, however the workload isn't bad and there's 2 essays throughout the course. TAs are great, very knowledgeable, definitely use them for the essays and any other questions. Discussions are basically mandatory since their graded. As long as you put in the time to attend lecture and discussion the class is pretty easy. |

Great professor. She goes fast, but provides students with all the content they need for class. As long as you show up to lectures and discussion, you will be good. |

Great gen ed to take to knock out credits. Prof Gensheimer is a good teacher and knows her stuff, and the class is so organized, it's great not having to put in more effort than needed. Sometimes lectures would be boring depending on my mood and if I wanted to be there, but I went to most of them and never had problems with quizzes or the writing assignments. If you like learning about art this is definitely the class for you, and even if you don't, you'll at least take a few facts you didn't know before away from it. This class drops off towards the end of the semester because both writing assignments we did were on Egyptian, Greek, and Roman periods, so take from that what you will. This class was super manageable and I really enjoyed the Egyptian, Greek, and Roman periods. Good prof |

Really passionate professor and a GREAT lecturer. Lectures are very interesting and I honestly really enjoyed what I learned and apply it to my daily life all the time. The discussions are fine, but kind of unnecessary. The TA's are very nice and knowledgable but a little harsh on grading. There are easy and quick weekly quizzes, two main papers, and one reflection paper. Overall great class and I would take it again. |

Really good lecturer and knows a lot about the topics. Her course and specifically her ELMS page is really well laid out, super easy to follow and what is expected of you. She also really takes the time to show you each week where to find assignments on Canvas and remind you of each assignment due. There are also a lot of different types of assignments going into your grade that keeps it more balanced. Outside of a couple of papers due throughout the semester, the class is fairly easy if you go to lecture and at least skim the textbook. |

Dr.Gensheimer is an extremely engaging and knowledgeable professor. The lectures are decently fast-paced, but are very entertaining and the time passes quickly. The quizzes and assignments are all very fair and easy to do if you go to lecture and do the readings. Outside of class, I only did like an hour of work for the class weekly. I really enjoyed the course and think it was an easy A if you attend lectures. |

Professor Gensheimer was a great lecturer. Her lectures are kind of fast-paced but her lectures and the content she taught were relevant and interesting. She tells the class her expectations at the beginning of the semester and is consistent all throughout. She posts an announcement each week explaining what we will be learning during the week and what needs to be completed. I highly recommend taking this course with her! There is a quiz every other week in this class and they are not too hard but she does not allow retakes. |

I took this class Spring 2021 when we were online. Her lectures were a bit boring and hard to get through. Though I like art history, I found this class dull. I did like the discussion sections though. I don't recommend doing the textbook reading. I went without it, and I got an A. Just review the power points and your notes. |

ARTH200 Expecting an A Anonymous 05/27/2021 |
Professor Gensheimer's lectures are information-heavy and fast-paced but contain all the information you need to know to do well in the course, The quizzes are straightforward, and the grading is fairly lenient. I began with no interest in art but the class was inspiring in the importance of Art in human history and to society, as well as immensely relatable to engineering. |

Dr. Gensheimer is a well-informed, organized, consistent professor. However, lectures tend to be pretty dry, and the dim lights in her room are pretty annoying when you're trying to stay awake. Do not take ARTH200 as an easy 'A' class, because it requires a good modicum of effort to even hover at a B+. |

As a CMSC major with no interest in the arts whatsoever, this class was actually pretty interesting. Great lecturer, always kept me engaged in class. She dimmers the lights so that you can read the slides easier (which I personally like) but a few of my friends said that it made it hard for them to take notes so keep that in mind. Tests were extremely fair. If you pay attention in class, you should be able do well on exams without much extra work. You can also do well on the exams without being extremely intuitive / knowledgeable about art and symbolism. My only complaints for this class were that the textbook was required (I managed to go through the entire semester and get an A without reading one of the "required" reading assignments) and the discussions are kind of boring, but also required as they check attendance. |
