181 just doesn't help if you're undecided, lectures are far too specialized in one subtopic to be of any help in choosing your major and the speakers being boring half the time doesn't really help. dean graham does try his best to keep the audience engaged from time to time but overall, it's just not a very interesting class. short essays are due every other week along with a 7-page paper at the end but it's not that much work. would recommend only attending lectures that fit the topic of the current homework assignment. |

Dean Graham is amazing!!!!!!!! This class however was not what it was advertised as. If you are looking for information on what YOU could be doing in each engineering field, DON'T take this class. This class is basically on campus researcher professors who come and present on what THEY do and only on what they do. They talk about their own very specific work and research at levels that it make it hard to understand. Dean Graham was amazing at dumbing it down for us, but it was still hard to keep focus and stay interested especially when they were presenting on a field that I had no interest in. There were a few essays we had to write about different problems, solutions, and innovations within the different fields that weren't too hard. The formatting was a little confusing at first but they are graded pretty leniently, they just take up a bit of time. Attendance isn't necessary and I was able to do well on the essays without attending the lectures by doing simple googling. Summary: If you are looking for help in choosing an engineering field to go into, DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS. Instead take the UNIV100 class that says it's specifically for engineers because they bring in people whose job it is to tell students about the field as a whole and what YOU could do in each field. |
