Super easy class. I took it with the intention of it being an easy A for a gened requirement, and I ended up loving it and found the content super interesting. There are weekly readings for the class and 3 total assignments for the entire semester, which are also short and straightforward. You can get away with not reading the weekly readings before class, but sometimes they're interesting. The professor is also great and super nice/understanding. I skipped a few classes here and there, but found myself actually wanting to go to class just to hear what she would have to say about certain topics.

Genuinely such an interesting class, and Dr. Guevara is an amazing person. She truly cares about what she teaches. The class is definitely on the lighter side, as there are only 2 short writing assignments and one multimedia project. I would definitely recommend taking it's a pretty easy gen-ed, plus you'll actually learn about things applicable in the real world.

Ok so I rated this a 5 because the class is SO SO SO easy. Professor is sweet and grades super easy. The largest essay is 750 words I think. She's also so accommodating. I got a week extension on an essay when I only asked for a day (I asked the day it was due too). Only downside is that the lectures were boring to me. The topics themselves were interesting but the teaching style wasn't really for me. It was mainly just her reading off the slides (Dr. Guevara if you're reading this I still think you're awesome). Overall, I definitely didn't regret choosing this class :).

This class is a very easy gen ed. Very free class very happy I took this class. The professor is kind of odd sometimes because she would threaten pop quizzes or extra homework if people didn't show up. However, she didn't actually go through with it. Theres only assignments the whole semester but they are a lot of work. I'd suggest to work on them 3-4 days before its due. It's not a lot of work and because they are separated throughout the semester its chill. For 3 gen ed credits this class is worth it.

The best class I have taken at UMD thus far! The course mainly consists of readings, which are then discussed and analyzed in class, with weekly assignments related to said readings. Dr. Guevara never fails to choose relevant and interesting articles and readings for the class. I am always excited to come to read the next assigned text, and even more excited to come to class. I have learned so much more than I expected from this course, and while it mainly focuses on medical anthropology, I think that the theories and themes you learn are relevant to so many other fields!

Never says anything not worth listening to. Incredibly kind, understanding, intelligent, and has a great selection of readings. Assignments are paced nicely and not too burdensome.

She is really sweet and the class workload isn't much. It consists mainly of discussions and presentations. You have 3 group presentations which are based on some assigned articles or videos which don't take too long. Then you have only 3 major assignments so you need to do well on them as they are what affect your grade. You have a op-ed which is an opinion piece you write on any topic related to the class, a film review from a film shown in class, and a project relating to class topics. The only annoying thing is how your grade is dependent on these 3 assignments but getting an A shouldn't be hard. You can do well even if you are to miss some classes as attendance isn't mandatory.

Best gened I've ever taken. An appropriate amount of work, class is not manditory but is helpful, and the professor is great. Highly reccommend.

Super easy course. Ended up doing the bare minimum and I'm still ending with an A+. The class consists of 12 weekly responses which have a 250 word limit and online midterm and an online final. Attendance wasn't mandatory so I didn't go to class at all and still managed to do good. Can't recommend this class enough for an easy gened

Dr. Guevara is incredibly kind and accommodating. The course consists of weekly reading responses and two online exams. Attendance is not required but Dr. Guevara will remember if you show up and participate. The course is fairly reading heavy so be prepared to cover ~40-90 pages per week, but the readings are usually engaging. I would especially recommend this course to any Marxists out there who are interested in learning about global health through a critical (fairly anti-imperialist) lens.

Dr. Guevara is a very good professor who cares about her students. The class is light and you will do well as long as you participate. Every class has readings and a group will do a presentation on the readings due. Most of the time you do not need to actually read the the articles because the group will summarize and then ask discussion questions. Attendance is not mandatory, but the class can be small and she will remember if you do not show up a lot. There are also not many graded assignments so you have to do good on the ones she assigns. Overall she is a very good professor!
