The exams honestly aren't too bad, but the lectures are SOOOO boring. There isn't much work outside of class though, especially for a 4 credit course. |

She's very nice and a decent lecturer. Her exams are brutal, but there is a curve at the end of the semester. Be prepared to put in the work if you take her. |

While the class was really difficult, Prof. Hellerstein was extremely engaging during her lectures. After doing poorly on the midterm, she was extremely accommodating to meet with me outside of her regular office hours (since I had another class at that time). She said she made the problem set and exams challenging on purpose, which was kind of frustrating, but she was really kind and had a generous curve at the end. She does a great job using current events to put theory in perspective and easier to understand. I would definitely recommend her, but make sure you can dedicate a lot of time to her class if you want to get an A. |

I am one of those people who always fall asleep in class, but her lectures were genuinely so engaging and fun I loved it so much. She also does a terrific job relating class materials/theory to a real life examples and/or current economy which made it super interesting. (she's also a very nice person) |

Great lecturer and knows how to teach. Exams are kinda difficult; some theoretical questions are very broad and if you don't explain exactly what the answer key will say, you only get partial credit. However, the curve for the class was decent so no complaints here. |

Lectures are interesting, so definitely go to class and take notes. There are a bunch of readings/papers, but you can always read the abstract and skim the rest. Exams are split into short and long answers. You don't need to study that much for them as long as you paid attention in class. If want to go deeper into topics such as jobs report, min wage, discrimination, then you'll find this class very satisfying. |

A wonderful teacher. Lectures, though long, were always interesting (though somewhat less so if I'd already read the textbook chapter for that day). Coming to class was important - she often deviated from the text, and that material would be on the exams. The exams were all multiple choice, and didn't require excessive preparation. It's probably a bad idea to bring a laptop to this class - you'll be better off taking notes by hand than staring at the PowerPoint on your screen. |

A decent lecturer. All her lectures are powerpoints which are online but that being said, there are many aspects of the lecture that are not obvious from the slides, and that she asks questions about on exams. So go to class. She does a good job of explaining concepts and providing good examples. Keep up with the readings and practice problems online, because they really help prepare you for the tests. They are all multiple choice, but not necessarily easy. All the problems require you to think a step further than the homework and practice problems expect you to. The homework walks you through answers, so don't be surprised when tests are more difficult than the assignments. The discussion sessions provide more difficult practice questions that you work through as a class, and is worth attending. I am not an economics major, but the class was pretty interesting, overall. |
