You have to attend class and take the in-class activities, but they're pretty easy. The content is fairly interesting, and there is not too much work. The professor was very passionate about this topic, and it showed through the lecture. The professor is also a chill guy, and a lot of class tends to be stories from his life that are relevant to sustainability, and it's pretty interesting to listen to. If you need an upper level elective class, I would definitely recommend this one. Also, shout out to the TA Xiaofeng Ye, who responded really quickly to emails and was overall a pretty chill guy. |

His lectures are REALLY boring, but you had to go. He has in-class 'activities' with an access code so you have to be there in order to access it. They're mostly just a simple question asking about something he talked about in class (usually very open ended). Not a very hard course, theres no final and no 'exams'. There are 4 unit quizzes which are basically open note since they're online and they're usually not too bad. Just make sure to go to lecture (in-class activities WILL drop your grade if you don't do one) and don't wait last minute like I did to write the independent paper (it was 8 pages). Super simple class, very little outside work, I'd recommend. |

Most of the time the professor ended up going on long, unrelated tangents about his travels rather than focusing on the course content. For our unit quizzes he often covers content on the quiz right before we take it. One time he directly skipped to the end because it would have impacted our time for the quiz, skipping over potential information that would've been featured on said quiz. The professor was not clear with the information, rubrics, and instructions on major graded assignments, often sending out bare, unspecific requirements several days before a major assignment worth 20% of our grade was due. This caused many students to adjust their papers or presentations right before the due date. Overall, the class itself is undemanding, but its easy to quickly become disillusioned with the lectures and lack of engagement. |

This class is really easy, but Professor Hilde is an incredibly boring lecturer, constantly going on tangents and rambling about unrelated things so it can be hard to get actual helpful information. He is also quite unorganized and will not give you rubrics for anything unless you specifically ask for them. That being said, its not a hard class, the grades are mostly participation, some quizzes, and one semester-long group project, but he is an easy grader. |
