This class was awful. As a junior criminology major I expected this class to be an easier grade than others because it was only a 200 level class but it actually felt like more work than a 400 level. The professor also did not seem to care about her students and was thankful when we only had one class left. On the first exam more than half the class got an F on it and she said we needed to do better and should have asked her questions but the exam review was not that helpful. She constantly complained about her other section and made everyone feel dumb. The course lectures barely even touched on responses to crime and she just read off her notes from her slides. She also takes days to respond to emails and just does not seem to care about her students whatsoever. She had said we could leave class a few minutes early to get to our next class since our room got moved but then would get pissed and make comments during class when someone would leave early.

Brooklyn Hitchens is a great professor, but you will have to work hard in her classes to succeed. She gives feedback, there were about 5 quizzes and opportunities for extra credit. There is a lot to read and study, but if you come to class and pay attention you will do well. There is a group presentation, two exams and five quizzes, but the quizzes are very easy and she gives pretty thorough study guides for them. She is nice but she's no nonsense.

Class is one of the most interesting classes I've taken at UMD. But the final paper and the final exam are worth 50% of your grade. She also deleted the class before she put in the final grade which is annoying

The class subject is interesting but the Professor talks super fast and very quickly goes over material. Tests are theory and application-based and one of the most difficult styles of tests Ive taken. Seriously felt like a grad school class.
