The class is basically a course meant to filter people out of the COMM major. If you've generally done well in school, this class shouldn't be any different. It requires a lot of memorization, and the TA's and professor Hubbard don't like to hand anything to you, they make you learn and apply metatheoretical assumptions to theories yourself which is quite frustrating. She isn't the devil, like the other comments said, but she isn't the easiest or most approachable professor. |

I took COMM 250. She might not be the sweetest person but her lectures and the course itself are very organized, which is something that I think is very important. |

DO NOT TAKE HUBBARD! She seems sweet at first glance, but my goodness she is the devil. I have no idea how one professor can have so much evil on the inside. DO NOT TAKE A CLASS WITH SUSAN HUBBARD You've been warned. |

I've had Hubbard twice now, in both comm250 and comm475 and let me put this as nicely as I can, she's a true ****. She is an enthusiastic professor but often students are shocked when they get their grades back. That's because her tests are extremely hard and she really prides herself for that. Based on her evaluations, almost half of her students (47% I believe) rated her as receiving too low of grades based on their effort. She used to work on campaigns but I guess she sucked at that and then became a professor. I assume this was for the shear fact of obtaining the power to fuck with you, for no reason, much like the police do. I digress. Yes, college is hard but for the amount of effort you have to put in the class it's just not worth the unreasonable stress. And no, in case you thought for one second, that effort counts for anything, get that thought out of your head immediately! Effort means NOTHING to her, so don't waist your time meeting with her to talk about your grade. She doesn't care how much you studied, how hard you tried, what you've learned, how you can apply the material to real life situations, nothing! Find another professor to take these classes with and don't buy her girl scout cookies either. |

Ok so heres the deal. She's really a nice lady, but thats not gonna cut it. Her teaching style consists of putting up a slide with barely any writing on it, speaks about it when of the information she says is relevant or easy to understand, then switches to the next topic before you can finish taking notes. She always states that the class average for an exam is below 80. I will step out of an exam after an estimated 40 hours of studying thinking i got at least a 90, then boom exam scores go out and i get an 80. She then claims that these are the exam scores and are not a typo. The fact that she has to specify that scares me. Her exams were unfair given the amount of information we needed to know and how sucky of a lecturer she is. On top of all this the TA's were garbage and i could not understand a word they said ( and i never say that about people with accents). All in all the amount of studying, stress, and aggravation i got from this class was too much for the grade i received |

You have to study for this class. There are 2 midterms and a final, and you can earn up to 3% extra credit on your final exam by participating in SONA studies (you can find short, easy ones that can be done online at home). You have to memorize stuff about a lot of theories, however the exams are all multiple choice, which makes it easier. Homework is due every week in discussion, it is graded on completion and whether or not you participated, so if you do the homework it should help your grade. She was a good professor overall, used a lot of good examples in class that you can relate to or understand, which helped with understanding of the concepts. Questions on the tests can be tricky. No curve unless the average grade in the class is significantly low (under a C). |

This is not an easy class and studying doesn't assure you an A. But she is an effective teacher and explains a lot if you attend lecture. She does have strict grading policies but they are equally strict for everyone. If you know right away not to mess with the grading policies then they shouldn't be a problem |

Susan Hubbard was my professor and I received a B in the class. However I definitely had to study. It is a lot of information to learn and there are not that many assignments. There are 3 exams and extra credit by doing a sona study. I would definitely recommend doing the sona study because its really easy. As long as you study your notes really well you should do fine in the class but unfortunately learning about theories is not very interesting. It is a lot of memorization |

Professor Hubbard wasn't the best teacher, but she wasn't my worst either. The class doesn't take a lot of effort (2 exams + final, no quizzes or daily homework, just a discussion assignment due every other week), but it is imperative that you attend every class, take notes outside of the powerpoints, and study because though she is easygoing in class, her tests are pretty challenging and she doesn't give busy work to help balance out your grade. I had zero interest in the material, and her voice is very easy to tune out, but doing that only makes you have to work harder. Going to every discussion WILL save your grade. Not that the discussions were very helpful in understanding the material, but attendance and participation counts as a test grade which will be very helpful if you don't do so well on the exams. |
