Goat alert! This is one of the best classes I've taken at UMD, and Chad is one of the chillest, yet engaging professors I've had here as well. Of all my professors this semester, the only one that actually made an effort to learn my name and get to know me was Chad. His TAs this semester, Lisa and Rashi, were also phenomenal. I will warn that If you aren't willing to do a reading every other night before class, or watch an hour documentary or movie or something like that, definitely do not take this class as that's the expectation. While the style of the course is subject to change based on class participation, the grading was based on 4 large projects, which are fairly labor intensive, such as making a muppet style puppet, and attendance/participation. Don't worry too much about this though; I had no idea how to make a puppet and I still was able to figure it out and get an excellent grade, and if you need an extension they will almost definitely give it to you. Attendance is mandatory and graded so make sure to be in class and be on time. Friday discussions are with an assigned TA in a class of around 20, and involve either brief discussion about assigned material, or various trips to different special collections around the libraries on campus--two are in Hornbake and one is in the Clarice. If you do at least most of the readings, show up to lecture, do the projects, and participate every once in a while, this class is not difficult at all, and it's worth it for the great prof.

I loved taking English 154 with Professor Infante. His passion for the material is evident and makes the class much more entertaining. He values your opinion and thoughts on the material as well and welcomes it heavily. Once, him and I nerded out over Avatar the Last Airbender and Steven Universe after class for a good twenty minutes and it was honestly unreal but such a fun talk. However, the course work is a lot. This class covers a lot of Gen Ed Requirements but is not an easy Gen ed. You have to be willing to sacrifice time outside of class in order to complete the four major assignments (the major one being to create a puppet or some other creative project) alongside of the more or less than 15 pages of reading every other day and a piece of visual media (movie/tv episode). The strategy I found with this is reading about three pages, or enough to contribute to the class discussion during lectures. Professor Infante also does not check his emails, however the TAs that I had were really helpful and responded almost right away. I loved this course a lot, learned a lot about animation history and really changed my view on certain aspects of media. Highly highly recommend taking this course!!

He's a great professor will usually flex some large due dates if you need extended time. Very reasonable and his lectures are interesting. However if you are going to take this course as an easy Gen Ed credit i don't think you should take this course. Lectures are mandatory and so is participation. There are four huge projects one including constructing a puppet. If you are willing to put time into this course and not as an easy gen ed its a great course with a great professor

Chad is a really great professor who has really engaging discussions and lectures on class material. Very lenient with late assignments as long as you give him a heads up. He is a seemingly easy grader (I feel like one of the essays I wrote wasn't very good but I still got an A on it). All in all a great professor and an easy class as long as you pay somewhat attention and read the course material.

I enjoyed our class on Native American Lit. Chad is a very knowledgeable professor and always gave great insight. The books choices were interesting, and it taught me to read literature in a completely different way. We did a lot of group discussions, which I enjoyed! But he does not respond quickly to emails if at all. And he grades VERY slowly. *Do not expect to see grades for months.*

His classes are engaging and interesting. They're not really lecture-style, more based on group discussions. Be prepared to participate

Professor Infante is one of the best out there. English is not my forte (mechE major) but out of all my current and previous professors he is by far the most passionate and engaging. He clearly cares about his students and sparks discussion on difficult topics very professionally but is not afraid to speak his mind. ENGL154 is not a demanding class, participation (attendance) is graded but in all honesty there's no reason to want to miss one of Infantes lectures, they're always entertaining. Take the class with professor Infante if at all possible, you will not regret it.
