Alan is a simpleton who doesn't know anything about entrepreneurship. He reads off a piece of paper for the lecture with no slides. He is also very passive-aggressive and unprofessional. This guy shouldn't be an instructor here. |

He reads off a physical paper while sitting down in a chair, and tells useless stories about his "glory days" as a corporate lawyer. This guy doesn't understand anything about entrepreneurship, and honestly, UMD is making themselves look like a joke for hiring this guy. Class is useless and extremely boring. You won't learn anything here. I made a massive mistake not dropping this during the add/drop period. |

Structure: The class is like 3 hours long once a week and is super boring. He just speaks. You could literally do anything you want while he's speaking which is fun. He does take attendance, but it doesn't really do anything. There are 2 tests and a final. If you average an A before the final, you don't have to take the final which was nice. The tests are online and are not timed. You have around 15 hours to complete. There is a business plan that you make throughout the semester and then you do a presentation on it at the end. There are really only 3 times in the semester that you actually need to work on it, so its pretty chill. There is also extra credit, which is basically finding a business related article and then you just explain what it says. For every article you find, I think you get 2% added to your final grade up to 8%. Since I got an A in the class, he didn't add this to my grade, so I'm not positive, but that's what he said in class. What you should do: Even though he takes attendance, it doesn't really count for anything. The class is super boring and you don't really learn anything. I would suggest you go to the first 4 classes, give an article during each class and then don't go again until you have to present at the end of the semester. I went 3/4 of the semester and then I just stopped. There were legit people who came to the last class of the semester to present that I didn't see at all beforehand. |
