I really liked professor Jacobsen this semester! He is def a tough grader, but I found his feedback useful, and if you put in effort on every assignment you should still end with an A. Assignments were just a photo project every week, so nothing was a surprise. I also found the assignments really fun, personally. You get a TON of time to work on the final project and portfolio, so just make sure to work on it throughout the semester. I do think he could have done a better job teaching those who don't know how to use a DSLR or editing software, but he does go over it in class as well. If you're willing to put in the work, and have an eye for photography, I would definitely recommend this class!

Nice guy but way too harsh of a grader. Really didn't learn much and the grading feels very subjective

Chill, nice guy. Way to harsh of a grader tho and does not really teach you how to use a camera. Also does not give clear expectations on what he is looking for and the grading feels very subjective.

Nice guy but pretty harsh grader for a subjective sort of class like JOUR370.

Prof. Jacobsen is a hard grader. It seems like he expects us to know how to shoot photos perfectly before we enter the class and grades us based off it. His grading method is not very transparent but you do learn a lot through his comments on ELMS. He's a very nice guy but drones on and on in class about irrelevant things.

if you're taking 203, TAKE JACOBSEN! really awesome guy who really wants to see his students do well. there are weekly assignments (like every 203 class) where you go out and collect photos/audio/video and then a final project that is a huge portion of your grade where you combine all 3 (or not, really up to you/your project). he gives you the final 3 or so weeks of class time to work on your final project, so you really should be able to finish before finals start. he's super helpful and understanding and overall just a really cool guy.
