Dr Johnson is not a good professor to have, especially for HNUH300, which I still haven't figured out its purpose yet. In the class, Johnson would usually just make students work in groups to peer review their "project" for the semester. She was not very clear with assignments. The worst about it was that she was EXTREMELY petty when it came to grading assignments. On two of the 3 benchmark assignments, she gave me a 75 or lower. With the one specific assignment, she took off 25% cause I didn't italicize something, which is completely ridiculous. It was also easy to know who she didn't like in the class (me being one of them), so it was common for me and others to get deductions for reasons that made no sense whatsoever. While the VP seminar should not be anything to worry about, and many other students had to work very hard just to get an A- or B, I'm very surprised that I got an A in this class. If you don't want your GPA lowered cause of a should be easy seminar class then avoid taking VP with her. |

Pros: -The class is fairly easy as it is a weekly reading and a participation log as well as a few writing assingments which are fairly easily graded -If you do all the work and go to all the classes, which are required to do, you should get at least an A Cons: -The content is fairly boring and repetitive as are her lectures -The professor is quite passive aggressive and can be very harsh out of the blue -She picks favorites and gets mad when people do not pay attention in class Overall this class is not the worst honors to class as it is an easy A however the professor is difficult and overall quite unpleasant to deal with so be warned. |

She is one of the most unpleasant professors that I have ever had. She was extremely rude and passive-aggressive towards me and other students in class, whom she decided she did not like. She's very particular about grading and consistently takes off "participation" points on participation logs worth 1 point total. In general, she takes teaching Honors courses too seriously. Do not take her class if you are expecting an easy time or a polite, respectful instructor to engage with. |

I am a CS major taking this course to complete the surveillance cluster in addition to fulfilling a gen ed requirement. I am generally uninterested in the content of the course, but as far as gen eds go, Dr. Johnson makes it really engaging and not too time-consuming overall. The first 2/3rds of the course comprise twice-weekly readings that you read before class; the vast majority of lecture time is spent discussing these readings, so at the bare minimum you do need to actually complete the readings. The last portion of the class is a group research project, which isn't amazing, but less work is required for this project than the one in HNUH238C. Dr. Johnson also grades everything fairly and gives thorough feedback on assignments within a week of submitting: this is something that you should not take for granted, because in my college experience so far, that is a rarity. No complaints about the professor, she is great even if you aren't super interested in what she is talking about. |

I really enjoyed this class this semester. She is very passionate about the content she teaches and this makes it easy to participate, she really loves ecology and feminism and it shows. I would recommend this class especially if you have any interest in the environment in general, it was a fun class that fulfilled a HU gen ed which was a bonus. The class itself was very low maintenance which made the things we had to read very easy to engage with when we had to do them. I recommend this class! |

She is, in fact, a really sweet person; however, the class content is very boring and redundant. She would give reading assignments that were due before class. This would include responding to 3 of her questions and prompting a response of your own. This wouldn't be too bad, but it is a fact that during class/lecture, we would go over the same reading. I wished she would talk about something different and relate that to the reading. But it is just the same information being presented, and it feels like a waste of time. Her class is very easy, though, so that's why she is getting some stars. I would not recommend taking this class if you are looking for an engaging lecture. |

She really cares about your work and how you do in the class, the problem is that it is a gen ed I didn't want to take so her being very engaging was annoying. Shes a great teacher. Also, all her work is in feminist theory so just keep that in mind. I wanted to do my project on something not related to feminism and she kept trying to make me make a connection to her work. I kinda didn't care for that. |

First of all, sweetest woman ever. She genuinely cares about you and your wellbeing (your weekend, your family, etc.). For the class itself, there were only two of us in it, so you HAD to make sure you knew the content. Before every class we had a reading to do where you just had to answer three posed questions and add one annotation (I got away with just doing this and not really reading the rest of the text). She is very helpful and honestly just really passionate about plants and feminism lol. Even though there were two of us in the class and I wasn't super interested in invasive species going into it, this class is actually super cool and not super time consuming. She is pretty lenient with extensions as long as you email her beforehand (but I wouldn't abuse this). There was one trip where we went to pull weeds on a Saturday morning (I wasn't super excited about this, but honestly it wasn't terrible). Overall, I think this is a great course to take and is covers a humanities gen-ed (3 credits). |

Nice, but takes this class strictly seriously, and seems a bit egocentric. The good thing is all of the daily logs relate back to what we need to write down for the big assignments, but I don't know if other professors also do this. |

Takes the Honors introductory course way too seriously. Docks points for stupid shit. Awful class, missed two weeks due to illness, with a doctors note, emailed her, and she wouldn't let me make it up. |

I know the class is pointless and I want to cut her some slack, but Dr. Johnson makes this class really irritating. She's weirdly passive-aggressive when interacting with students. Completing assignments for her just consists of creating hollow, pointless walls of text that happens to line up with whatever sociopolitical views or platitudes about community building she was droning on about that day. Lenient grader, though I doubt she reads submissions anyways. |

Not too many things to say that the first reviewer hasn't mentioned. Dr. Johnson takes this class way too seriously and makes this "class" a way more annoying experience than it should be. There are worse things I could say, but I will opt to just tell you to try to find a different professor if you want to take this pretty useless class. |

Dr. Johnson seems to take a 1 credit course way too seriously, if you are looking for an easy A, just take a different professor. When students are worried about harder/more important classes like Calculus, Chemistry, or Physics they should not have to stress about missing an assignment on "How to write an email" that brings their grade down by an entire letter. I can see that Dr. Johnson wants the best for her students and puts great effort into her job but she needs to have some leniency towards her students, especially in a 1 credit course that students will forget about in about a year. Other than that at least she's great at her job and is passionate about teaching. |

The class itself is pretty easy, but I feel like Dr. Johnson tries a lot to make a 1 credit gateway course seem important. She can be very picky with grading and takes off points for minimal mistakes so make sure to try and follow exactly what the rubric says. It can also be easy to forget about the participation assignments, don't forget to do those because the more you miss them the more of an impact it has on your grade than you may think. Besides teaching/grading, she genuinely cares for her students and is a very approachable and sweet person. |

Dr. Johnson cares too much about a 1 credit class that could be an email. She can be condescending if you don't do exactly what she wants, the way she wants it. This is not to say that following the rules and assignments is the issue, it's more so the way she facilitates discussion. She makes it appear she wants open opinion however, after a while it is clear that she is looking for one specific answer. While this could be understandable in a class where this is one clear right answer, however Gateway is supposed to encourage free thinking and discussion on many deferent, often personal topics. While this next issue may be no fault of her own, as she may just be following the curriculum she was given, it often appears as she has only just learned a topic that she is lecturing on, nay it seems as if she has just preformed a 5 second simple google search on the topic 10 minutes prior to the class, while also presenting herself as an all-knowing expert. I'm sure she is a lovely person outside of lecture, however she has made this class absolutely insufferable. |
