Vadim was extremely nice but very quiet and it could be difficult to understand him. He often went through material very quickly but he posted the powerpoints. Workload outside of class was light, we had 6 homework assignments and 9 concept checks which were not too bad. Class was mandatory as we did not know if we were going to have a worksheet or not. Worksheets were graded on completion but they were helpful as they gave exam like questions but also it forced you to communicate with the people around you. He encouraged collaboration for the homework's and studying. His exams were fair as we got 2 sheets (front and back) for midterms and 4 for the final. One exam is dropped and another was curved which was very nice. The TA was amazing and had phenomenal review sessions which made the exams so much easier. I am not a biology major and have never taken a biology course, but I did not find this class to be too bad. Vadim really cares about his student's success and pushed us for honest feedback.

Vadim was a pretty good professor. His lectures were easy to follow, exams were fair, and course load was never overbearing, which is all I can ask from a Gen-ed. Attendance was *technically* not mandatory, but about 60-70% of lectures had in-class assignments to be done in small groups. They were always easy, and I'm pretty sure everyone that attended class always got a perfect score, but I didn't love that aspect. He also would not say if there would or would not be an assignment beforehand, though I assume that is because he knew many people would not attend if they knew there were no assignment. Exams had review sessions with the TA, and the recording and slideshow were posted on ELMS, which made studying pretty quick and straightforward. You were also allowed 2 sheets of notes, front and back, for each midterm, as well as 4 for the final. Lowest exam was dropped, which was really nice. Much of the class didn't even need to take the final. Lastly, this was one of Vadim's first semesters teaching, and he really pushed for honest feedback from us, which I think highlights his passion as well as him wanting to improve his class for future years. If I were to take this class again, I'd choose Vadim's class again.
