I definitely struggled a bit in this class because of the critical reflections which had to be at least 850 words, which he ended up lowering down to 700 because others struggled too. He was really kind and helpful however, reaching out to me to ask if I was okay when I wouldn't turn in the aforementioned critical reflections. He gave me a lot of extra time, and I think my biggest advice would be to just do a video instead of the essay. The video is 3-5 minutes long and I would knock those out in an afternoon. I'd just find a background video and a song so I wouldn't have to dress up to record myself(use capcut for editing it's a lifesaver). They're a super chill and caring professor, highly recommend! :) |

Pretty easy A in my opinion. 50% of the course is graded on essays you write at the end of each unit. I got 100s on all of them just by focusing heavily on one aspect of the unit and explaining an opposing opinion i'd say I have, supporting it, and then writing about why others disagree with it. Also there are 5 essays but he drops one so I didn't have to do the last one. I didn't really go to the lectures or do the slidos so I got a C in lecture engagement which was worth 10% but because I always went to and participated in the discussions I got an A in discussion engagement which was worth 25% so it kinda evened it out. Theres a final at the end of the semester but its open notes and everything on it is on the lecture slides so i'd recommend condensing everything on the slides in a google doc so you can easily search for the answers. Overall, I recommend this course if you don't mind writing a 750 word essay every 3 weeks. |

I really like Professor Kass. He's a good lecturer and an accommodating professor. The discussion feels a little unnecessary. Ultimately, if you need a gen-ed it's not a bad class to take. Definitely better off if you have an interest in art, though. It's not a lot of work at all but I highly recommend participating in lecture and the discussion because your grade depends on it. Lectures aren't super important to attend (though there is attendance taken) but I strongly recommend taking notes on the presentations. |

I'm not a humanities major. I'm an information science major, and I took this course as a GenEd. Overall, he is a good lecturer. He includes everything he goes over in his slides, and he always posts them ahead of time. Lecture attendance is mandatory/grades, but it kind of boosts your grade if you go (so there's a benefit). He is a nice person and professor, but I have not asked him too many questions. However, he is flexible to change or suggestions, so never be afraid to ask. |

Professor Kass is a genuinely good person who cares about his students. The majority of the class is completing critical reflections every three weeks or so. As long as you take good notes in class and do the weekly readings (short, 2-3 articles or videos) you'll be just fine. The class isn't time consuming at all, and the final is open note and open resource. Professor Kass cares a lot about feedback and will adjust appropriately if students feel lectures should be structured better. Very adaptable, very friendly, easy class. |

I really wish I could give this professor a higher rating because he does seem like a genuinely nice person. Responds to emails quickly and was more than willing to work with me when it came to ads accommodations. The content of the class was also very interesting to me as I love art theory. Maybe it's just cause I'm not a humanities major but the constant lack of concrete answers got really annoying by the end of the class. The Weekly responses were definitely draining and the vague feedback didn't help at all. I could not consistently get above a 7 out of 10 despite trying hard and talking to the TA. I felt the grading was very subjective and often times I had no clear answers as to why I even lost points. For the midterm and final you are given the choice of either an artwork, an essay or a quiz. I chose the quiz for both. The quiz was relatively easy especially if you took good notes during lectures. He does ask a few overly specific fill-in-the-blank questions which can get annoying. Overall, I would not recommend this class to anyone like me who likes having a clear and specific rubric for what's correct and what's not. |

Really nice professor and only see him during lectures... which you have to go to get an access code for an attendance point. Discussions are once a week and honestly not too bad, you have weekly responses you have to submit that you discuss and participation is a MUST. You get to decide if you want to submit an essay, artwork with essay, or quiz for the midterm and final. Having those options are really great. Overall good class but can be confusing, not too much work and honestly would take again. |

He is very passionate and knowledgable about the material. The workload is very manageable. We had a weekly reading in which we had to write a 300-word reflection on. You have 14 opportunities but only have to complete 10 of them. Attendance to lecture and discussion is mandatory. There is a midterm and final and you can choose to complete a quiz, an artwork, or an essay. The material is really cool if you are interested in art. I highly recommend this class and this professor!! |
