Professor Kern is unprofessional. She posts assignments late and then takes forever to grade them. Just take someone else for this class.

Professor Kern was very unprofessional. She often posts assignments very late, leaving only a few hours to complete work. The homework is graded on accuracy despite being on topics that will NOT be discussed until the next class, so everyone does poorly. The "lectures" are her playing videos created by the previous professor of the course for an hour every week. She does not respond to emails in a timely manner. You have to learn almost everything on your own... and if you don't the diagnostic exam that you take at the start of the semester counts for 10% of your final grade despite it being called a diagnostic, (i.e. a test to see where your skills currently lie). This class is terrible, actually study your grammar before you take that diagnostic so that you can exempt yourself from the class. This one credit class required more work than any other course I took at Maryland this semster.

Professor Kern is highly unprofessional and not a good lecturer. She relies mostly on videos that the previous professor created to teach. She does not answer emails and is passive agressive when students ask clarifying questions. Despite being a 1 credit class, this was the most difficult class I took during my 1st semester.

I recommend actually trying on the diagnostic or using OTHER resources to help you pass the diagnostic. If you do not pass the test, one it will count against you, and two this will be the most stressful one credit class you have ever taken.

Nicki is a really nice professor and she tries to explain the very boring and very tedious material as much as possible. This class is more difficult than it seems, you will question everything you thought you knew about grammar.

She doesn't really teach and relies on videos to teach us the subject. She often posted assignments late, sometimes even the night before. If you stay on top of the course it's fine, but in my opinion, it's way too much for a 1 credit prerequisite course.

I understand that it’s a boring subject so that can make it hard to stay engaged, but this one credit class requires by far the most work of any class I’m taking at Maryland.
