Look. He's a very passionate professor. The topic is very interesting and you can see in class that he cares about the subject. However, there are so many things that made this into a stressful class. - As of right now at the end of the semester and into finals, there have been no grades out. There have been multiple short papers and two midterms and nothing is out. So I have no idea what my grade is or if I'm interpreting anything right. - His use of this website called PackBack makes almost no sense to me. It's a website where he wants all writing to be turned in which makes it an all around stressful endeavor. The discussion posts and short papers are generally are not bad but it's annoying because the AI on there makes mistakes too. But he had it to where a timed midterm was way way more complicated than it needed to be which made test taking a way worse experience. - He doesn't or barely answer emails. I emailed him about multiple things, even sending multiple follow up emails and still had no response. I had to get someone involved and then he came to me about what I had emailed about. He'll come up to you in class and talk about it briefly which I honestly think that he can take the 5 minutes to respond in email. - Because he hasn't graded anything, for the final research paper that he made us write an outline for, no idea if the direction that is being taken is anywhere near correct. It's hard to gauge if I need help on understanding anything or not. He's talked about the paper in class and you could email him for a meeting and you can find what slide deck he had the information on, but I doubt he'd answer the email as the only time I've gotten answers was going up to him. -Also he always always goes overtime by 5 minutes every class. It's not the biggest deal to me, it's annoying. But those 5 minutes could mean 5 minutes of being one time or late to another class. He's an intense professor that truly loves the class. He gets excited when students participate and although his lectures are boring, it's nice that you can go back to his slide decks on elms. However, be ready to have a frustrating start to the class and having to continuously go up to him for more immediate answers. Also be ready to have your emails seen but you not being sure when you'd get an answer or even receiving one or even if he saw it. I genuinely love the topic but the professor made it harder for me. |

This class definitely takes some thought, but Professor Kestnbaum clearly cares about his students and wants us to succeed. He gets sad when people don't show up and gets so happy when people participate. He teaches mainly through slides which can get boring, but the information is posted online. Most assignments are graded by TA's so there's some variance there, but overall he is a great guy and I would take his class again. |

He has a system where if you put in the work, you get at least a B, if not an A. Engages with his students well, really enjoyed this class. |

This guy is the goat. He is very intelligent and cares a lot about this class. He gives a lot of readings but they are all very interesting if you love history. I loved this class |
