He explained the theory well, did lots of practice problems, and had visual demonstrations. Additionally, he recorded all of his lectures via Zoom, so I could easily clarify my doubts on homework, which is assigned on Prairielearn. His office hours were helpful, as he was always open to answer questions without criticism. Take him for dynamics. Suggestion: do not get overconfident before tests, especially because you are given a formula sheet. Make sure you know how to properly apply all formulas. Do lots of practice problems, especially the homework problems. |

Dynamics is a hard and theoretical class regardless of the professor, but Kiger makes his lectures entertaining. He brought a yo-yo to the first day, and kept that yo-yo master energy for the rest of the semester. He pulled up website from the University of Illinois that gives simulations of the concepts in a lot of the lectures, which was helpful for some people. We built with legos in a discussion, it was super fun (I think you do that in all the sections). He also has lego models of the homework questions out in office hours. He's the associate dean of the engineering school, so he was gone for 3 classes to be at conferences', but he had another professor cover his lectures. Kiger also gave us an equation sheet for the assessments (which is surprisingly not standard across the sections). Your average grade for the class is not posted on ELMS, which is kind of annoying, but it's easy to calculate. I went from a B- for the midterm grade to an A- for the final grade (I did not take the optional final). There is no curve for the class, but you can submit re-grade requests for the quizzes, you don't have to do all the questions on the homeworks to get a 100 on them, and you can re-take the multiple choice part of the midterms. Good luck! |

Kiger is a mediocre professor. He spends too much time on theoretical concepts and doesn't really break the problems down to the simplest parts you just have to understand what he is saying. He is very nice and very accommodating but as a teacher I really felt he wasn't the best for me. Dynamics is tricky and honestly you need to put a lot of work in to understand it so having Kiger was really not ideal for me and I ended up withdrawing. I later took it with McAvoy over the summer who was much better. I will say that reading the textbook is actually very very helpful as while it can be dense it does break down practice problems step by step which is very helpful. |

Dr. Kiger was a very understanding and thoughtful professor. He did an excellent job teaching ENES338K. He was always willing if you reached out for help (whether it was course related or more personal). |

Dr Kiger is a genuinely nice guy who seems to really care about his students. I would 10/10 take him again if given the chance. The course concepts are difficult, but if you pay attention in lecture, ask questions when you are confused, and attend office hours if you need to, it's easy to do well. He is always willing to help a struggling student out. He's very passionate about the course material, and it shows. One of the better professors for the ENES classes. |
