Despite claiming to have lived in America the past 11 years, he has an elementary grasp on the English language. He speaks in endless, incoherent sentences. The whole class revolves around memorizing the two problem types he provides each month. If you have a photographic memory this class is a breeze. If you're used to working out problems logically, good luck learning from him. I have learned a lot this semester simply because I have had to teach myself *absolutely* everything. I have not missed a class. I'd say avoid but he's the only choice for intermediate II. Don't buy the textbook, it's online for free and he had not used it for the first 3 exams.

Not my favorite teacher ever, but I would take him again. The only grades in the class are his 4 exams, all worth 25% and none of them are cumulative. This means absolutely no homework or outside work which I loved, but could be a pain when it came to studying. You really only had 2 examples to learn the concepts from because there are no answers provided for the textbook. He goes through all of the information that you need to know by going over packets in class, just make sure you understand the logic of it instead of memorizing the steps. Sometimes he will switch things up on you for the exams but if you actually understand what's going on in class they shouldn't derail you too bad. I didn't realize the importance of going to class, I probably went to 3 the entire first half of the semester so I had a 50 something percent at midterm. He has a good method of weighing your highest and lowest exam grades, though, so after studying like crazy for the last 2 exams I ended up with an A-. He means very well and is a really sweet man, my main complaint is that he should provide more practice. Overall you can expect to get a decent grade in a class that is known to be difficult.

Let me preface by saying that I took this class a couple semesters back and decided to just get around to reviewing him. Kim is a nice guy, and he knows his stuff. It is hard to pay attention to him because he is hard to understand, but if you do pay attention then you are going to do fine. He also has some funny stories and anecdotes to add. The tests are practically based off the notes, and his homework assignments are literally past exams so if you go over those you will do decently on the exam. The reason I say decently and not that you'll ace it is because he throws a curve ball at you in each exam. So you have to study the homework assignment, and then prepare for an unexpected trick question that he puts in that distinguishes the A students from the B students. If you aren't prepared for that question and you mess up another portion, you are doing poorly on the exam. BMGT311 is a tough course regardless of who you take it with, so I don't think Kim is any worse than any other professor for this course, but you may want to consider whether you are prepared for those kinds of tests.

If you put in the effort, you will get an A. The people I know who struggled with Kim did not attend a lot of his lectures. If you attend the lectures then you should be fine since his exam comes from the notes.

He is a terrible professor. He does an awful job of teaching. He is impossible to understand. If you want to learn, then take it with a different professor. Fall 2013

Okay, seriously the people who are posting below are basically admitting that they are lazy students. Kim is an adorable professor who really knows the material. He distills the information to digestible bits, even if he is sometimes a little hard to understand. The lecture style is old-school, but as long as you pay attention, his course is the best-kept secret in 311. Very manageable as long as you dedicate the time. THE EXAMS COME RIGHT FROM THE NOTES. You hardly have to read the book, no required homework, and the exams are just like the practice problems. If you expect to take 311 without having to put in the work, then you're in college for the wrong reason.

do not take any class with Oliver Kim. He is a smiling korean guy and will teach you NOTHING. I took his BMGT311 class in spring 2010, paid attention in class, and felt like i still didnt know what he was talking about. If you... 1. have lots of money, dont mind to waste some 2. dont want to learn anything about accounting and dont care about the grade (even a "C" or "D") please take BMGT311 with Oliver Kim. If you want to learn something and have a good grade after working hard, take BMGT311 with some one else.

not a good professor. does a lot of theory, no examples. moreover, he likes to see students do poorly so he gives only 2 examples thus giving you nothing to work with. come the exam he'll add a twist of some sort and you'll have no idea how to do it because you never practiced. the book doesn't help. going to his office hours doesn't help. going to class doesn't help. you have to print out your class notes and he often makes typos on them. there are 2 midterms and a final each worth 32% then 4% is homework. you don't learn a thing and i knew a lot of people who literally got less than 20/32 on the exams. little to no curve. take it with someone else if you can

Please if you care to learn anything...DO NOT take a class with this man. He is about the worse prof on campus. He walks in cracks jokes for 30mins that no one even gets, and then he enjoys to see people fail. The Dean and Chair have to review his crdentials or capability. His teaching startegy is RIDICULOUS. You would regret every bit of his class....I promise you...Many of my colleagues are retaking it, just cos he's so bad....I hope he leaves soon. I feel sorry for other students....He doesnt know how to answer questions, AT ALL. He's TERRIBLE.

His class was kinda frustrating. You practically know what's gonna be on the exam because it's so similar to the homework. He gives you notes with 1 or 2 examples, so with the homework you have 3 practice problems for each chapter to focus on. However, on the exam he'll have something extra that wasn't in the examples but it was a small memo in the notes. I just didn't like the guy, he always seemed to be happy about us getting stuff wrong. Also, he never taught any theory, just technical stuff, many of us didn't know why we're doing what we're doing. I wouldn't take him again.

Kim is an old-school teacher! He walks into the room and starts writing notes on the board for about a half hour. He explains it for another half-hour. Then 15 minutes is for his funny/awkward stories. The exams are almost entirely from his notes, plus a customary curve-ball question which isn't in the notes. You gotta go to class and take notes!
