I want to clarify first that I want to be generous (so take my review with a grain of salt) as this was her first semester teaching a class and does seem a genuinely kind professor just kinda overloading with concepts in teaching. You only need to complete 7 out of 12 weekly reflections which are overall pretty easy, only need 14 participation points (theres about 2-3 per week), and only need to complete 2 out of 3 quizzes (lowest dropped). After you're doing with participation points, you can optionally skip class (and she posts the slides). But there are some negatives: First of all, the weekly readings actually expected was kinda ridiculous and I really don't think a single person in this class read all of them, let alone retained anything from them. The quizzes are more like exams in my opinion because the review needed to cover the entire 4 weeks of lectures is pretty crazy for me personally; you need to cover a lot of the content in the past lectures and that can include obscure concepts in the weekly readings and the slides and its just really hard to know what will be covered in the exam and what won't be. For papers, I personally found them really difficult to find the literature on and kinda long (4 pages for a major assignment and 6 for the final paper). Also, classes and discussions are very boring and just kinda hard to get through in general. For lectures, she does know what she is talking about when she teaching but there isn't anything really new from what she is saying and what is on the slides. For discussions, they were just super mudane where they often just reviewed assignments, made you work in groups for the class, or just talk about the readings/content. Overall, the class wasn't completely crazy, just kinda boring and confusing, plus when major work was assigned I felt like I just had to write papers on scarce literature concepts in information science plus I felt my education was just a whole load of weird concepts. I don't think she deserves 1 star (more like a 2-2.5?) but I think she definitely needs to restructure her class. |

The class itself is easy; you have weekly reflections that you need to do, but you only need to do 7 out of the 12 weeks, show up to classes and discussions to get participation points, where you only need 14 points. She says that "you are required to go to discussions," but I only showed up to a handful, and in discussions, you are just doing a boring group assignment for participation points. She gave out study guides after the class had done so badly on the first one, and after that, they became easier. As for the major assignments are pretty straightforward; make sure you plan ahead because it can be a lot of writing. |

Pros: required to submit 7 out of 12 weekly assignments, required to complete 2 out of 3 quizzes (highest two count), just need to get 14 participation points to get max grade for participation category, can do major assignments in groups if you wish Cons: grade calculation is harsh (each point you get off of any assignment equates to 1% off of final grade), mandatory participation, in person quizzes pen/paper (all other profs have them online take home), TA's grade harsh, TA's don't email you back, lectures and discussions are so dead but you have to be there |

Tough grader, in-person quizzes (closed-book and based on the readings). Participation points are based on class activity and discussion lab. |

If you want to suffer with in-person, closed book quizzes (feel like a midterm and final exams), you can pick her. Quizzes are based on your entire book, lecture slides, and extra weekly readings. |

Terrible professor. Can not understand what she says, she just reads off the slides, and does not provide any review for the quiz. So basically you have to review all your lecture notes and all the long readings to prepare for the quiz. |
