Rick Kohn is truly one of a kind. His lectures are awkward and monotone, which is probably why attendance is typically a strong 1/3 of the class. He makes a great effort to entertain people during class with jokes that you will rarely pick up on or have the energy to make an effort to respond. Additionally, a significant portion of his lectures may involve discussions surrounding international politics. In all honesty, I must commend him for it since I have no idea how you can work a US diplomacy in latin america discussion into a lecture about hay and corn. Overall, his lectures fall into the category of "yapfest" because the guy just rants, but if you get over yourself it can be enjoyable. Amazingly, you will find out the guy is an absolute genius which is cool. His exams can be difficult, but overall they are fair. Same goes for quizzes and assignments, there is nothing incredibly difficult about this course. Try not to sneak up on the guy because one time his phone went off and he jumped out of his chair. Guy is a legend, just sit there and be in awe of his greatness.

Dr. Kohn is very monotone and it's easy to want to fall asleep in his class. The information is definitely important but it doesn't seem like he cares to make it interesting for students. But do pay attention to lecture slides for the exams! The worst part about this class was discussion. Discussion is mostly all excel and the TA's barely go over instructions and if they do it's very vague. There are lecture quizzes on elms that you get multiple chances at and there are also lecture quizzes and assignments for discussion (these will tank you grade if you don't do well). For exams, definitely pay attention to the exam reviews. Last semester he allowed us to use our notes but I'm not sure how it will be going forward. 3 exams are given and one is dropped so the final is optional if you do fairly well on the first two. There was also some type of random curve at the end, I was supposed to have around a C- or C but ended up with a B-.
