At first I liked this class because the topics are interesting and the only assignments were class discussions and in-class essays, but after the first two essays, I found that the discussions and my notes from them were not very helpful. I did okay on the essays, but definitely did not receive the grades that I believed to deserve. In addition to this, the response papers were not handed back until the class period before the next paper, which gave very little time to ask for more feedback or clarification, and then did not allow me to take my notes for the next discussions accordingly. Jack is a very nice professor and the actual work wasn't very hard, but his grading and timing were very bad.

I really enjoyed taking this class, and Jack did a really good job getting people involved in the discussions and asking interesting questions. The class consists of daily readings due, and then you spend the first half of class discussing it with those around you, and then you do a full class discussion. And it is all on the history and philosophy of education, which I found interesting even though I'm not an education major. You do get a participation grade for showing up, so this isn't a class you can skip, but the class is really interesting. You have a few group projects due as well, but they aren't that time-consuming; they just require you to meet with your group for like 30 mins. And you have a final project which you can do however you want. Two 1-2 page reflection papers, too, but everything is graded very leniently.
