Genuinely one of the if not the best professor I have had at UMD. He genuinely cares about helping and teaching you, so much so that he will pause the lecture to answer your questions. He describes things very well and prepares you well for his exams. He would also go over the entire exam during lecture to ensure understanding (and also gave us chocolate after finishing the exam, which never happens in college much less STEM lectures). Of course, quantum chemistry requires a lot of studying and it contains a lot of abstract concepts but it was one of my favorite classes at UMD, I highly recommend reviewing the lectures right after class, going to office hours, and practicing the problem sets. |

Great professor and clearly cares about the class. Posts very detailed lecture notes for every lecture. Is big on visualization, which is important for such a conceptual class. Did have clicker questions, but forgot about them halfway through the semester so we only ended up doing half of what he planned. Exam questions were fair, averages were low though because the exams are just too long to finish in 50 minutes. Halfway through the semester he started grading problem sets based on effort, which was very appreciated. |

Didn’t know what to expect when I first took this class but it was a tough class for sure. Dr. Liu was a great professor and put tons of time and effort into teaching this class. Overall my best advice is to go to his office hours, and buy the textbook because quantum mechanics is not something you’ll understand overnight. |

super nice dude. has clicker questions about once or twice a week. explains concepts pretty well and gives relevant examples of testable questions in class. only thing that was difficult about his style was the fact that the exams were just way too long to finish in a 50 minute session. he would go over the exam with us the next lecture after the exam and it would take him 50 minutes to show us how to solve half the problems while working nonstop lol. other than that, he genuinely cares about his students and i felt like i learned a lot. expect averages of 80-85% on the homeworks and ~50% on the exams. Fat curve was given at the end. |
