Dr. Liu is nice and her class is very organized and pain-free! The lectures are easy to follow and always recorded and uploaded promptly. The midterms are split into two parts- the in-class written portion and the online multiple choice portion. The multiple choice is online and very easy, stuff straight from the lecture. The in class written portion can be difficult because it is very memorization heavy and there is a lot of information to learn. But, she does drop one midterm if it improves your grade. The homeworks are also easy but maybe one or two questions are a bit of a curveball that involve actually thinking critically lol. The final was pretty difficult but the online part was almost half of the total score, so that made up for it. There are 2 question, 5 points quizzes after each lecture, also very easy but she drops 4 of them for everyone. In the end, I had an 88% with nothing dropped, and I was worried about ending up with an A-. But, once my worst midterm was dropped and 4 of the worst quizzes, I ended up with an A!! Otherwise, the material of the class is super relevant to a lot of other fields and you learn a lot. Especially if you work in a lab, this class is great. Super chill class with good averages and helpful professor!

I really enjoyed taking Dr. Liu's class! Her lectures are easy to understand and she records all of them so you can go back later to review any information you missed, which took a ton of pressure off trying to get everything down in your notes during class. We consistently get out of class 10-20 minutes early and I thought her exams were fair. Her accent is not really an issue at all and she obviously is very knowledgeable about the field. First 1/3 of the semester is basically a rehash of BSCI222 and the rest is about molecular techniques and model organisms, based on what she has told us. Would definitely take her again.

Dr. Liu was very sweet and overall a really great professor. Her lectures, homeworks, and exams never got too difficult or took up too much time. (Almost too easy...) She could explain concepts fairly well. She made time for her students, holding many office hours. I did not think there was much of a language barrier. I would recommend her for BSCI410 to anyone in the future.

When I took this course Spring 2016, it was split between Dr. Liu and Dr. Wu teaching it. Dr. Liu taught the first half of the course, and I by far thought she was the better professor (not quite Dr. Wu’s fault though, it was her first time teaching.) Dr. Liu can be a little bit hard to understand sometimes, but she really does mean well. I went to office hours a few times and she was very helpful. I hear the other molecular genetics profs aren't that great, so Dr. Liu might be your best bet. She was pretty generous in letting us drop one of the two midterms, and she drops a few of the lowest clicker questions. It’s clear she wants her students to do well. I managed to pull off an A- and genetics definitely doesn’t come naturally to me.

Dr. Liu is super nice! She held homework help sessions and reviews before the exams. The homework questions weren't too bad. The exams were fairly easy but tended to run pretty long. Overall, the material covered in class was interesting, but not unbearably hard. The first half of it was a rehash of BSCI222, while the second half presented newer techniques and discoveries. A lot of it would be something you would hear in a biochemistry class.

If you read the book, and pay attention to class, then it would be easy. Exams were easy,.. HW can be confusing, but she holds hw session to help students out. She is very very nice. I highly recommend her!

The class itself, at least when Dr. Liu taught, was pretty much a repeat of BSCI222. We did go a little bit more into modern technologies and recent discoveries though. Dr. Liu also likes to talk about her research, which is interesting at first but sometimes over our heads. Only 2 tests and a final, and we got to drop one of the tests (not the final). Also had a few homework assignments (taking about 2 hours each to complete).
