Goes on tangents that aren’t even about the class |

She'll take points off on big assignments with little to no explanation. Your team will do everything the assignment says and still get a bad grade. She doesn't know much below the surface about Arduino or anything you need to know for the course. Any time we would ask her a question she'd make some reference to her ex-husband, her family, or where she used to work, and then refer us to the TA. Basically none of what you learn in this class will come from her. A lot of the learning we did was on our own, but the class itself wasn't that bad. Most other professors for this course are really good, and I wish I chose one them. |

She is a guessing game. You will be assigned a project but I promise you, your grade will not be good. You will do exactly what the rubeic says but when you receive your scores back, you will get points marked off for things that are purely based off of opinion and not her rubric. You will get marked for things that she just thought of in that moment. She will go off on tangents that seriously hurt the time needed to understand the important aspects of the class. I know more about her family tree than anything else. Also, I came into this class knowing most of the material, if you aren’t like I was you will be so unbelievably lost. She has little to no knowledge of whats at hand. Pray you have a good TA but even still that wont matter. The highest grade in the class as of now is an 82. Do anything you possibly can to avoid having this professor. |

lloyd is alright as a lecturer, she does go off on tangents quite a bit but i dont think its a huge deal. the course is a lot of content so the assignments were often a lot of work but the exams were fine, especially since cheat sheets were allowed. make good cheat sheets and you'll be fine |

She's okay. Her lectures are very conceptual and she does have a tendency to go off on tangents that aren't related to what you need to know which can make the lectures boring to listen to when you only need like 1/4 of the information. She also won't post most of the recordings for the lectures and she'll hide the example slides in the powerpoints she posts to "encourage students to attend class." Also the other professor curved because our averages on all our exams were around 60% but she didn't cure which was a little frustrating. Also not sure if it was her or the TAs but they were super behind on grading and I'm half convinced they just made up our grade at the end because a good portion of our assignments, particularly our project assignments, were never input into canvas or gradescope. |

Nice lady but a HORRIBLE TEACHER. I literally know next to nothing going into the final and I pretty much always go to class. Also the group project for this class is a nightmare. |

Lloyd takes a more hands off approach and is one of worst professors you could take this class with. Unsurprisingly, noone in Lloyd's section this semester did great on the OTV project. The flipped classroom approach gives your boring and old videos and don't teach you much. The TA, Gerald, was chill though. |

She is the worst teacher, professor, and UMD employee I've encountered so far. She is extremely talkative and boring, always mentioning her son, ex-husbands, and her experience in engineering classes from 100 years ago. Her boring voice and teaching style makes it difficult to pay attention during lectures and lessons. Her anecdotes and dreadful stories go on forever and keep students from working on their project. She is terrible at answering questions and students are forced to hesitantly nod there head and walk away after asking three times for clarification. She expects students to have perfect assignments, milestones, and projects with no guidance at all, so be prepared to do a ton of research on your own and come into this class with knowledge of circuits and Arduino. This class itself is very poorly structured and laid out time-wise, but Dr. Lloyd makes it so much worse. Do everything you can to avoid having Dr. Lloyd. |

Dr. Lloyd can come off as very talkative and somewhat friendly during her classes, but she constantly brings up completely random stuff out of nowhere and goes n random tangents of irrelevant things of her life or one of her multiple ex-husbands or family members and does not really do a good job at teaching or reviewing the materials. The TA does a lot of the work for her and is the one that people go to for help and explanations because while some students are trying to learn the concept she would still be rambling about her "Years of experience in the field" rather than teaching it. The class is mainly group-oriented along with the occasional quizzes, so if you get placed into a good group, and have a decent TA, you'll be fine |

Glad to see that a decade later, the previous reviews for ENMA300 are still accurate; lectures are indeed "schizophrenic," the information presented on the slides are jumbled, and she still goes on tangents every other sentence (about real-world examples that don't seem all that helpful in terms of learning the material). |

Dr. Lloyd is a nice, friendly, and easy-going professor. However, going online proved challenging to her as the TA had to do most of the technical work over Zoom. The class is very straight forward, simple participation questions, quick homework, and in-class assignments mainly completed in groups. The entire class is group-oriented so you will never be alone or stuck if you have a question. Sometimes the homework may include topics that were not covered in depth in class which makes them difficult, but if you go to any Office Hours you will find your answer. My one critique for Dr. Lloyd would be she may respond to emails really fast or sometimes awhile, and that she always goes on small tangents about her life and past family issues. |

I agree that she's pretty enthusiastic, and she clearly does like the material in macroprocessing, but her lectures are really just god-awful. She crams too much info on her powerpoints and when she uses them she spouts other random knowledge that may or may not be relevant to the class at all. Both in her presentations and in what she writes on the board, she doesn't write enough to convey meaningful info or even to be understandable except as a direct supplement when she's talking. I went to every class, but then when trying to learn on my own with her material it was essentially useless. Her organization is terrible, with seemingly random interjections and tangents that may still be important. The class seemed to be structured as almost an overview of the entire industry, and then her homeworks were on really specific things. For example, she went over grinding methods and what size input and output they were used for in class, and then had us pick grinding methods for specific materials in the homework - no sizes mentioned or even useful. And the tangents, oh my god. I know more about this woman's ex-husband, current "boyfriend" (shudder), and kid than I do about my own brother, not to mention her personal interests and every single person she's ever met in the industry. Overall, this class was frustrating and honestly seemed pretty outdated most of the time. Not recommended. |

Dr. Lloyd does not have a good teaching style for college students. Most of us became disinterested very quickly, which is disappointing because it's a required subject. She uses new terms without bothering to ever explain what they are and throws in many unnecessary details about how things relate to her work, all in an attempt to maybe sound smarter. She does all this while using pointless anecdotes about her personal life, such as her ex-husband, that make us laugh over how contrived they are. Just her speaking style and body language is as if she is speaking to middle school students, not those in college. Her presentation slides are too wordy, which makes it pointless to try to take notes when she skips ahead quickly. Luckily she posts those slides online, which would have caused the majority of the class to not ever show up had it not been for the fact that she gives unannounced pop quizzes in order to have some attendance. Everything you need to know you can learn in the textbook. Grading is very inconsistent. Students who worked with each other on a homework could have grades that differ by over 10%. Questions on the exam also can be opinion-based for material selection problems and result in varying grades. Because you don't learn much in class, you are reliant on putting all the relevant information from the book and homework on the crib sheets you are allowed for the exams. I would recommend avoiding her unless you really love pointless stories early in the morning. I hope to never have her as a professor again. |

She is one of few professors I've had so far who genuinely has an interest in the topic she teaches and wants students to succeed. I found her attitude toward the material to be somewhat infectious, and probably found the class more interesting than if I had taken it with someone else. Her lectures can be somewhat scatterbrained, and I think at least once a week she brought up something from her personal life. She doesn't go off on long tangents about it, but it's still distracting. When she is on point, she focuses more on the bigger picture of the material, and expects you to dig in to the details on your own. |

I really liked her. She's not the best lecturer I've ever had, but she was pretty good. She definitely goes heavy on the conceptual end of things, but partly just because the course material was heavily conceptual. Pretty fair grading, for the most part. VERY willing to help students - wants them to succeed. Likes to go off on tangents; can be a little scattered. She really likes and cares about the material, which makes a huge difference. Overall, I would definitely recommend her. |

Dr. Lloyd is not the best lecturer. She is very enthusiastic and cares a lot about materials, which is nice at least. I could not pay attention to any lecture, and resorted to being productive on my laptop. The homeworks are just math and using equations, and the lab sections are a joke. Each midterm we had a cheat sheet, and could have 3 for the final. What killed my grade was missing out on conceptual stuff that I missed in lectures, which the final was heavily based on. If you're stuck with Lloyd, sit in the front and try to get through it. You might need to read the book or go to office hours with her if you can't get Christou or McCluskey. |

Yeah I wouldn't say that she's very good at teaching you the stuff you are supposed to learn, the stuff that you'll actually be tested and quizzed on. She goes off on tangents on real world applications (which are interesting and nice to know, but don't really help you) that take you away from what you're actually supposed to be learning. I was in her class for about a week before I switched into another professor's section (McCluskey-- much better, probably the best ENMA300 teacher) and it made doing homeworks and understanding what I was actually supposed to learn better. So I would avoid Lloyd, but if you HAVE to take her she's not THAT bad. Her class may be a little more work when it comes to understanding what you're supposed to understand. |

She knows her stuff for this course and is very helpful if you need to talk to her or don't understand something. If you're having trouble in a course she is teaching go talk to her. She wants you to learn and do well. |

Okay. I didn't think she was as bad as the other reviews made her seem, but not great either. Definitly true that lectures are hard to follow-she'll start something once, stop, continue it later, stop, continue it two days later...basically one topic will be on five different pages in your notes. But I thought the homeworks were pretty reflective of the test, and you got a cheat sheet for each exam which helped. She had 2-3 pop quizes which sucked, but didn't seem to effect your grade much. And if you pay attention in class the stuff she goes over ten times usually shows up on the exam, its just a hard class to pay attention in. Books good, so yes, you can pretty much learn everything you need to know from that. |

Lloyd doesn't really know anything about the material so everything is left up the TAs. If you ask her a question she will usually defer it to TA since she doesn't know the answer. I'm starting to wonder why she is allowed to teach this class. |

ENMA300 Anonymous 12/08/2009 |
Yes, lectures were schizophrenic. they were all jumbled and impossible to follow and strung together rather incoherently. she also does a rather poor job explaining most things, so you will really have to try hard at the homeworks, and figure them out on your own. its really through the homeworks that i gained any understanding of the material. HW every week, 2 tests and a final. |

"Lectures were schizophrenic." Very true. Tests were impossible to study for, too much info per powerpoint slides. |

She sucks. During lectures she spends about half the time talking about her ex's family or about how she spent twenty years in industry and all that. She provides very little help during the hovercraft building time and relies on her TAs a lot. Her lectures are almost a copy of the common section lectures given a week before. Not much help on the midterm either. Her TA is much more helpful. |

She sucks. Lectures were schizophrenic- always talking about something related to the subject but when thought about more closely, means nothing at all. I learned literally nothing from her. Work consists of 4-5 hws throughout the year, 2-3 quizzes, and 1 midterm/final. If you have her for another course, make sure you bring the crossword to class. |
