I'm a STEM major and took this class to satisfy a general education requirement. I didn't think I would get much out of ANTH210, but I was surprised by how much I learned about social issues and medical history. It was a nice break from my heavy math and science classes, and the assignments and exams were easy so long as you did the readings (they were also open-book and notes). Professor Lopez was also friendly, helpful, and very understanding of students. My TA Katherine was also very friendly and responded to emails quickly. While social issues aren't my area of interest, I would happily recommend this class to any STEM majors who need a gen ed that's interesting and easy. |

I love Dr. Lopez, she is truly the best professor I have ever had at UMD. She is so passionate about her work and is so caring about all her students. If you have the slightest interest in medical anthropology or anthropology in general, you HAVE to take a course with Dr. Lopez, you won't regret it. |

Truly the best professor I've ever taken. Her content and lectures were always so engaging. If you are someone who is passionate about social issues in relation to healthcare and science, take her class!!! You will not regret it. Not much work, other than readings before class (which can be pretty dense, but manageable) and a few midterms which we basically get the answers to during a review session in discussion. |

Super cool woman and amazing professor. She is truly so passionate about her work and absolutely loves teaching about it to her students. She keeps all the topics very relevant and manages to break down really big anthropological ideas and dense readings into key concepts everyone can understand. She is also just so eloquent and speaks incredibly well in front of a room so her lectures are insightful and helpful. Dr. Lopez encourages students to share their thoughts during lecture and engages meaningfully with each student's input no matter what it is. She also just genuinely cares about her students. We had a tragic loss in our class during the semester and the way she handled it and responded to it showed just how much she supports us and prioritizes our well-being over anything else. The class's workload was light, all the powerpoints were posted, and the midterm and final were open-internet so overall a super easy A as long as you just do the work. Most students enter not even knowing what anthropology is, but Dr. Lopez's class will give you new perspective on the world and make you think differently about health and our healthcare systems. |

Great teacher. She posts the PowerPoints online, the class is very discussion-based with I enjoy, and she's not a tough grader at all. |

Dr. Lopez is hands-down the best professor I have ever had. As someone who has taken mostly STEM courses, it is so refreshing to have a professor that is genuinely passionate about what they teach. She also genuinely cares about all of her students and creates the most welcoming and engaging classroom environment. It is truly a privilege to be in one of her classes, and if you have the chance to be take it! |
