Dr. Lu is a kind and caring soul with a lot of chaos and fun within. She's flexible to needs, all major assignments have a built-in two week revision period/extension, and she even said she'd be willing to go further if you talk to her about it. Class was part discussion, part lecture, and sometimes had a little activity. She was good at assessing the vibe and giving breaks as needed. I loved her short story choices as well. I love her so much as a professor. I took Storywork with her as my 106 class, and I had so much fun. One short story (or film) + an academic reading or two + a discussion board per week, along with a major assignment per unit (3 total), and a whole class group project throughout. It wasn't a super heavy workload although those major assignments WILL creep up on you. Some of the academic readings are rough, but I think she knows that. Just be engaged and put in an effort and she will meet halfway. Like the 105 people say, yes, she talks a lot, and a significant chunk is about her personal life, but at least in Storywork it was mostly at least tangentially related to the short story or the discussion we were having about it. I never found it to be dry or boring, even if probably more than I should know about a professor's life (I love drama though so I had a great time.) |

I took this class (the games elective) in Fall 2024, just never wrote a review until now. Dr. Lu is one of the most thoughtful and earnest professors I’ve ever had. People sometimes get the wrong first impression because she's a yapper, but don't let that scare you. Both in this class and in general, Dr. Lu is a big proponent of value-based design. She has high hopes for DCC students' potential, and I would argue that she's a big part of what makes DCC a design program instead of a typical art program. Assignments for this class were reasonable. There were a few assignments across the semester for an individual game, one final deliverable for a class-wide game, and some reading quizzes during ~half the semester. The readings were sometimes long, but usually skimming was enough to complete the quizzes. There was also an engagement grade, which Dr. Lu liked to describe as “would this class have been the same without you?” As long as you showed your cared about the course content and weren't a dick to anybody, you would have been fine. |

barely a real course. honestly, make your life easier and pick the most simple subject for your independent study and you're golden. I'm not sure that this class is explained the best but I didn't have to meet with her all semester. turn in your benchmarks and your final deliverable on time and you're fine. |

Dr. Lu was an ok professor. She spent so much time on her personal life that I feel like could have gone into teaching the lecture instead. She seems as though she needs a therapist and not a class. She assigns readings every so often and then does knowledge checks on them which are for completion so it is kind of confusing. The readings do not seem to have a huge impact on the class though. The worst part is the engagement grade at the end of the semester. She graded us on how much of an impact we made in the class which in my opinion was unnecessary and added nothing. As someone with anxiety I felt as though the engagement grade was a terrible add on to the class. She is nice as a person and someone to talk to about problems but as a professor I would not recommend if you have a choice. |

She spends the first 30 minutes of every class talking about her personal life. I like when professors talk about their personal lives but I feel like 1/3 of each class is too much. Also, she gives a participation grade at the end of the semester, and apparently participating often in class and having perfect attendance is not good enough for an A. Other then that, Dr. Lu is a nice professor and the assignments in this class were fun and a good way to unwind. She drops 2 of the 6 total offerings and gives two weeks after the due date to resubmit offerings. |

She's an ok professor tbh. This class is the definition of an afterthought. She assigns readings but you don't have to do them, and she just talks about her personal life 75% of the time. Don't know what I was supposed to learn in this class but the course engagement grade at the end was the worst part. She grades you on if you were memorable in her class of 60 people which is dumb. I only go for attendance and to do other work. |

She's an ok professor. Honestly, this class was an afterthought for everyone, so there are no strong opinions either way. If you hate professors who spend most of the course talking about their personal lives... do not take her. I know more about her family than I know about what I'm supposed to be learning in this class. |

She's a really good and kind professor. She cared about her students and tried to connect to students in many ways. The assignments in this class weren't too hard and she made expectations clear. Her presentations for her lectures were always pleasing to the eye and relevant to today's culture. She made learning fun and created a welcoming environment. I was glad I started off my college experience with her as a professor! |
