This class is split into 2 sections: the first half being a lecture based "intro to engineering" type course, while in the second half you and a group have to construct a robot to achieve various objectives. Thus this review will be split into two parts for each part of the class: In the first half, Dr. Maqbool is an ok lecturer, but the reality is there's just not enough time to cover the amount of material they try to shove into this class. However, Dr. Maqbool still performs fairly well. He often will relate engineering principles to things in the Aerospace Engineering field, so if you are in that major this professor is for you. In the second half, Dr. Maqbool just lets groups work independently. He is does try to be helpful and provide tips and guidance if teams need it, but for us most questions we asked were met with "I don't know" or "let me get back to you on that", so he wasn't the most helpful. Additionally, he lets the TA take over all the grading, which led to some concerns for us. However most of the professors and TAs we interacted with did not seem the most knowledgeable either so I don't think this is a unique experience with Dr. Maqbool. He also isn't there on time or at all a lot. For example, he was entirely absent from our final presentation. Overall I would recommend him as a professor, but because of the TA handling almost all the grading I think you're sure to find grading issues in this class.

Not a great lecturer, but he is a very chill teacher. Only problem is that he is very strict with grading. For presentations, he never gives 100’s. This class should be an easy A, but you have to essentially be the best team to get a solid A. This is why most of the class ends with an A- or below that. He also didnt show up to the final presentation and did a facetime and gave all groups a 90/100, meaning none of the groups could get any higher than that. Pick any other enes100 teacher if you want an A

If you are an aero major, I HIGHLY recommend Dr. Maqbool, as he LOVES talking about planes and the "closely guarded secret" behind growing jet turbines from crystals. Myself being a civil engineer, I didnt really find his constant chatter about planes entertaining but im sure that there are some people that do. He was an OK lecturer, and was a fair grader. In the end, its the type of class that you'll get an A in if you put forth the right amount of effort.

Not a very good lecturer and often gets sidetracked but he's a super chill guy and his class ended up being one of my favorites. He does also give a lot of group work, and he is very flexible if you have any conflicts with grades, however, he isn't really the most chill grader.

I thought overall Dr. Maqbool was an okay professor. I feel like at the beginning there wasn't much time to do some of the in-class assignments, but he gave us more time to complete it. Taking ENES100 with Dr. Maqbool was chill, but sometimes I also felt like the grading criteria were a bit unclear. Our groups also had different overall grades. I think Dr. Maqbool was an okay professor.

Generally good lecturer. His lectures were relevant and made sense. I feel like I learned a lot of useful things for the future. The main problem was our group for the OTV project. We did not have a full class, not enough for each group to have 8 people. Instead of having two groups of 7, I was part of a single group of 6. Seems possible this group could have had 5 if not for me joining the section during the add/drop period. Only in hindsight do I realize this was not a wise decision to have it this way, and I feel Prof. Maqbool should have intervened, as we had significant difficulty on many of the checkpoint assignments, and it showed in our grades. Look at grade (similar to others in my group) and compare to average for the class. Most people are supposed to get an A if they put in proper effort (which I feel we did). Not sure if anyone else's experience will be like this in the future, but please ask for a full group (or 7 people if 8 isn't possible).

The GOAT right here. Very chill professor. You get to pick ur teammates in his class and his grading isn't too harsh. I would recommend Dr. Maqbool.

Chill professor and really cool guy overall. Very open to questions and having chats. Definitely take ENES100 with him. As with any ENES100 section, make sure you work in a good group and you'll be set.
