This was my first time taking 107 since I changed my major. Martinez is honestly a great instructor. We had group assignments, homeworks, small quizzes and then 2 midterms with a final. For a summer course it obviously has to be fast paced but as long as you complete all of the work and do somewhat good (showing improvement with each exam) you’re guaranteed to pass. He can be a bit of a slow/strict grader (usually on the homeworks) which places stress on everybody but make sure to ask questions, work with the people in your class to study, and remain in good standing (coming to class, turning things in on time and not being a jerk). He gives a generous curve at the end and honestly makes math the least stressful thing ever. Overall a great instructor and would 100% take him again if needed.

Expecting a B+

After I got a D in my previous semester, I retook 141 with Martinez and got a B+. He's a nice instructor, and is very generous on curves (which is sort of expected, as his exams were on the harder side... averaging 40-60). He gave curves on each exam; in one instance, my 47 became a 73. He also gave letter grade adjustments at the end of the semester, making my B into a B+. However, just realize that he doesn't necessarily go over various types of problems that you'll see on the exam during his class time. I didn't utilize his office hours as I felt that I didn't need them at the time, but you should ASAP if you feel iffy about the material (which basically broadly applies to every class). He also doesn't have great handwriting, but that is kind of expected for a math instructor.
