Susan Mazzullo STAT430 Expecting an A FozzyBear1 10/19/2024	A phenomenal professor. She is great at teaching us SAS, the assignments are clear, and the tests are fair. Take this course with her if you can.

The slideshows can be confusing since some of the slides are the same with a few numbers changed between them and the formatting is messed up, but overall the class was easy.

Susan Mazzullo STAT430 Expecting an A+ Anonymous 07/09/2023	Take this class if you want an A that is easier then breathing. All you have to do is come to class and the work that she gives out is so repetitive the process of everything will stick to your head like muscle memory. Every assignment is so easy, so if you put in the work, it literally translates to the quizzes and tests. There is only 1 midterm and a final and they are so easy. I straight up got a question wrong on my midterm and she said did you understand what you got wrong and gave me 6/10 points back. This professor clearly cares about teaching students rather then grading. One of the top stat professors in UMD for sure.

Susan Mazzullo STAT110 Expecting an A+ Anonymous 03/29/2023	While I had no direct interaction with Professor Mazzullo, I can say that this course was well run for an asynchronous 1 credit programming course. As someone who took this course with MATH206 (Intro to Matlab), STAT110 one was far easier and less time consuming. Assignments consisted half ELMS quizzes and half coding assignments to be turned in as a pdf. All assignments were due on the last day of class, so self-pacing is key. I feel confident using R for very basic statistically tests and graphs and this certainly prepared me for RStudio in BSCI161. However, this was definitely an introduction. Overall, I would recommend this course if you want some exposure to RStudio. STAT110 is a great introduction!
Susan Mazzullo STAT100 Expecting an A Anonymous 05/23/2022	Professor Mazzullo was an alright professor. In the beginning, she did a really good job teaching and explaining the material. After the second exam, the material got more complicated and it felt harder to follow along with her lectures. She tends to repeat herself and waste time (especially if she is teaching through zoom). A lot of people in the class complained that she was a bad teacher but personally I felt she was average. She kind of talked to students as if we were still in high school but in some cases, people needed it… Her practice exams REALLY reflect the real exam which helped a ton. She also gives plenty of opportunities for extra credit to boost your grade.

Susan Mazzullo STAT400 Expecting an A+ Anonymous 05/11/2022	Professor Mazzullo can be rather disorganized at some times, but she is extremely approachable and lenient on grading, which made the experience more bearable. On the first midterm I took for her class, I did not do well, and got a low D. However, she offered a chance for 80% credit back through regrading as long as we came into discussion and corrected our answers. This changed my exam grade from a D to an A. I know of no other professor who is this generous with giving their students a second chance. Sometimes I feel bad because students may exploit her leniency and take advantage of her class to talk while other students try to learn or push for extensions well beyond the deadline. I think it would be better for everyone if she made her expectations clearer and if she was firmer with due dates.
Susan Mazzullo STAT400 Expecting an A+ Anonymous 05/09/2022	Nice professor, but tends to over complicate such easy topics. A bit disorganized and lectures tend to be all over the place. If you want the class out of the way just take her.
Susan Mazzullo STAT100 Expecting an A JKK016 04/13/2022	I'm not a big math person, but Professor Mazzullo was very lenient with rounding, dropping bad grades, and explaining test problems. My TA however was the worst - I caught multiple mistakes she made that saved me from a B or lower. Check everything through Mazzullo, NOT your TA.
Susan Mazzullo STAT400 Expecting an A+ Anonymous 01/11/2022	Can't really imagine a better choice for STAT400, she's a very good and easy teacher. We had test corrections on our two midterms, and we got up to 80% back on the first midterm. The tests weren't even that hard in the first place. I would also barely go to lecture/pay attention in the second half of the semester, but her slides were good enough to learn off of that. She does a lot of practice problems in class to make sure you know the concepts. I guess one complaint could be that she moves too slow, and she probably does, but she really hammers in concepts this way. She even canceled the third midterm because people complained that it was too close to the final. The R projects were super easy too since she literally gives all the commands to you and you just change the numbers. And, you can tell that she truly cares about her students and makes sure that everyone can get an A even in a class of ~300 kids.
Susan Mazzullo STAT400 Expecting an A Anonymous 12/26/2021	She is one of the few professors at UMD that truly cares about students and actively tries to help them. She gave us ample opportunities for extra credit, allowed notes on exams, and test corrections afterward. All she wanted was for us to learn something from the course and enjoy doing so. Honestly, as easy as this course was, I truly did learn. Many concepts have still stuck with me past the course. If you can take Mazzulo, do it. She is inspiring and a breath of fresh air in a bureaucratic teaching system.

The class itself was almost TOO easy to be honest. She gave bonus points on every exam, she let you regrade your exams for up to 80% points back, my 85 -> 97. She even cancelled one exam to not stress us out before finals.
Susan Mazzullo STAT400 Expecting an A+ Anonymous 12/22/2021	Great professor! She explains topics well, and is genuinely a nice person. Her exams are fair, and she does a great job of accomdating student requests. When I took it Fall 2019 I remember she let us redo the questions we got wrong on exam 1 for half credit back, which was really nice. She also has plenty of other opportunities for extra credit.

You almost have to try to get less than a B in her class. Not only is she a great grader but you'll actually learn a lot from her and she's a sweetheart.

Susan Mazzullo STAT401 Expecting an A+ Anonymous 05/20/2021	Professor Mazzullo is widely considered to be the best UMD undergraduate statistics professor. Having taken her class, I can say that that title is 100% earned. Pros: + Content is digestible and made extremely to understand. Prof Mazzullo is very good at explaining what could be very difficult and complex topics. + Professor answers any question that anyone has, no matter how dumb a question may seem. This creates an extremely nurturing learning environment + Easily the nicest professor I've had + Exams are quite easy and fair + Tons of opportunities for extra credit + Teaches a ton of relevant skills for a variety of careers, such as Python, SAS, Excel, and Minitab, despite not explicitly needing to for this class. Cons: - Only one I could think of was that the first midterm had a time crunch. However, it was still doable, and future exams did not suffer from this issue.
Susan Mazzullo STAT100 Anonymous 04/14/2021	sooo sweet and great with the online format. She's so engaging and interactive. Take STAT100 if you need to get a math requirement! She's very patient with this class since stat is more conceptual rather than difficulty with computation.

She wants everyone to pass, her projects are super simple, and her exams are really straightforward. She also lets you get back partial credit if you correct mistakes on exams. Only downside is that she's too nice. We're in a Zoom class and some students start spamming the chat with worthless questions, and she still takes the time to answer everyone.

The only downside was that she didn't disable the chat feature in Zoom at the beginning of the semester, which allowed a bunch of annoying and pointless messages to distract everyone from learning the material.

She's a little cluttered and will blow up your phone with announcements, but on the bright side, you'll never forget you have something due. Somehow she made stat fun, totally recommend.

Susan Mazzullo STAT401 Expecting an A Anonymous 04/29/2020	Mazzullo is the first prof I've had that I think about and smile. The first that I'll actually miss when I graduate, even though we aren't buds or anything. She's just extremely, extremely nice, and sharp as a tack too. Any class she teaches will be easy, she will teach it well, and you'll have lots of opportunities for flexibility. Plus, it's clear what you have to know, and she will teach you all you have to know.
Susan Mazzullo STAT400 Expecting an A Anonymous 01/09/2020	Mrs. Mazzullo shows that she cares about her students and wants all of us to learn. First and foremost, she allowed for test corrections in each of the three midterms (1/2 points back for Midterm 1, 1/4 points back for Midterm 2, and 1 point back for Midterm 3). Moreover, whenever she can't lecture due to some things coming up, she would post a video lecture with an attached quiz. Since the quiz has unlimited attempts, they were an easy way to not only obtain free points but also learn the material better. I thoroughly enjoyed having her as my STAT400 instructor, and recommend anyone who has a chance of signing up for her classes to do so.
Susan Mazzullo STAT430 Expecting an A assuminglion99 12/19/2019	She is very kind and understanding, classwork is pretty chill for the most part...she now uses Zoom to conduct online lectures on Friday (as a way to practice coding in SAS), and uses Mondays and most Wednesdays (some Wednesdays we also have online lectures) for lectures. Her lectures are pretty dry though and the slides are very long, but she posts them on ELMS, so it has all the info you need.
Susan Mazzullo STAT100 kassidysj 12/17/2019	She was one of the nicest professors for my first semester at UMD. I have never been talented at math, but she enabled me to get an A+ in Stat100. Her review sheets are basically the same as the exam, so you’re definitely being prepared to do well. She is also lenient with deadlines of homeworks, and gave about 8 points of extra credit during the whole semester. She is very kind, but I notice that some students zone out during lecture, due to her rambling. She can ramble on, but she is just trying to give as much background and explanation as possible for these topics. I definitely recommend her for stat100 :)

Since the quizzes aren't every week, a lot of people wouldn't show up to discussion. We are allowed to bring a sheet of notes into the exam, and she also let us do test corrections on the first and second exam (for 1/2 points back on the first and 1/4 points back on the second). She must have canceled lectures at least 8 times over the semester for personal things that came up for her. When that happened, she would post a video quiz which was super easy, and you could retake it as many times as you wanted.
Susan Mazzullo STAT100 Expecting a B+ Anonymous 05/03/2018	Probably the nicest lady I've ever met. That being said, she can't really lecture properly. We probably started class late everyday because she was gathering her things. Material is easy, just a lot of busy online work. The discussions aren't mandatory, and the TA's honestly don't even know what's going on in class. She drops a lot of stuff, and we probably had 15-20 extra credit opportunities, so that's nice. Take her if you want an easy B, but be warned that you might have to self teach yourself a lot.
