One of my favorite professors I've had. Attendance is not graded for lectures but I do recommend going because it helps add more to notes for studying purposes rather than just the slides. I maybe looked at the textbook once and never actually read the cases except for the last exam because he goes over them in class. The first two exams are more scenario based questions so just have the concepts down and then it's easier to apply them. All his questions were multiple choice with some true and false. If you do well on the first exam you don't really need to stress as much since the other two are curved. Personally, I also thought he makes his exams seem a bit harder than they actually are so don't freak out too much. There is a group paper but it's not graded harshly as long as you follow the format and back up your arguments.

I had a great experience with Professor McGarry. He is very passionate about law and keeps you engaged with a variety of examples and stories. I loved his straightforward nature and his brutal transparency with students. The only thing I disliked about the course was how he organized class materials on ELMS, so hopefully he improves that. But overall, he did a tremendous job teaching the class. The grading structure may seem intimidating at first but he applied curves to ⅔ of the exams. Taking notes on what he said in class definitely helped me prepare for exams. And a quick tip: get started on the group project early!

Dry sense of humor, but very funny. He is great at bringing in random pop culture topics into the realm of law. His exams are tough, but his lectures are super engaging. If you study well and listen, you will do well on exams. I feel like I learned SO much- easily the most out of any class I have ever taken. He is pretty blunt, but he is a lawyer, so expect that. The group project SUCKS. People do not pull their weight, McGarry does not care about who does work, just that it gets done.

Lectures are great, his dry humor is funny (at least to me) and gives crazy enough examples that will help you remember the material. You’ll witness a llama plushie go through some real life examples of the law you’ll go over. It’s funny but again, memorable. Exams are tough if you don’t study. If I didn’t have senior-itis and put in much more effort in studying I could have easily gotten a least a B. Great professor, you gotta put in the work. He curves cause he understands law to non-law students is pretty difficult. I’d take his class again!

Absolute dawg. Funny, keeps you engaged, uses real world examples, uses his own professional experience, and tells you it straight. The best class I’ve taken at the business school not only because I found it interesting but because I found it useful. A lot of the information is very applicable to a professional career. Can’t recommend him more

I absolutely loved Professor McGarry! He was clearly experienced with the law and loves his career. He uses his own experience/current events/exaggerated examples to keep you engaged. He knows what he's talking about and is very understanding. Class will be difficult if you don't come to lecture, you should take notes on a lot of what he says as it's not always on the slides, but class was usually entertaining and funny so I didn't mind. The first two exams are case based while the third is more definitions. People usually did pretty bad on the first two, but if you pay attention in class you should be fine. Overall I would love to take another course with him, and I highly recommend everyone else to do the same!!

Very experienced lawyer with so much experience to share! Everything he taught was connected to real life stories that he either experienced or from cases we talked about. He is very interesting and this was by far my favorite class. You are graded by pretty much just exams, and one project but he was very generous with the curve for the last two exams. First one wasn’t curved. I got a D in the first one and still managed to get an A in the end. I wish he taught more classes, if you have the option to take him please do, you won’t regret it. - also you don’t really need the textbook, power points and the cases from class are all you need.

I would highly recommend taking McGarry for BLaw. His class is very chill, sometimes boring because of the subject material but he does his best to keep us engaged. There's no cold calling, he just requests you speak 2 times throughout the semester (usually summarizing a case) to earn participation credit (6% of your grade). There are 3 exams and he curves the second and third. The exams are very hard ngl but the curve helps.

I highly recommend Professor McGarry. He explains law concepts in an easy-to-understand way by using descriptive examples, and his exams are closely aligned with the class material so there are no surprises/curveballs. He kept the class interesting and engaging, which I found very beneficial. With his background as an attorney, he also provided real-life examples that helped me learn the concepts even better. If you're looking for a Blaw professor, I strongly encourage you to choose Professor McGarry!

I really enjoyed Prof. McGarry and this course. The cases were engaging, and I appreciated his teaching style. However, the exams were quite challenging, and I didn’t do as well as I’d hoped. Looking back, I think reading the textbook would have been more beneficial than relying solely on the slides. Also, the final exam is quite different from the first two exams. The first two exams involve case-based questions where you analyze stories, while the final is primarily definitional. I found the final much easier in comparison. My main critique is the group project, where you work with 7-8 people to write a 10 page paper. I’m not a fan of group papers, and this one ended up feeling pretty disorganized. Even though I didn't do great in this course I still learned a lot and enjoyed it. Beyond business law, we also covered various other basic legal topics, which is good knowledge to have.

I don't understand, where all the negative stuff about blaw being so hard came from after taking this class. Prof. Mcgarry makes the information really understandable and he is passionate about his teaching, makes class enjoyable to go to and simple. as long as you show up sometimes and take notes it's not a hard class at all. I can't speak on other teachers but prof. Mcgarry is a must take if you want to learn and do well for an upper level required class for business majors. Also he's very approachable if your worried about anything you may not understand.

I took Professor McGarry's class in the Fall of 2023. I was initially deciding between this and another night class, and knowing this class was much more difficult than my other class I was leaning towards dropping this. However, after the first lecture with McGarry I was hooked. He does a great job of explaining the content but also helping you remember it. He uses exaggerated fictional stories (in addition to his own experience) to explain the key differences between concepts. Truly a captivating professor Like every other Blaw class, his class is structured with 3 exams worth 30% and 10% participation from doing the case study. The 10% should be totally free as long as you do your case. The exams can be hard, but he curves the 2nd and 3rd one quite a bit. I got an 80% on the first exam (was not curved) and then a 107% on the 2nd exam after the curve. The content on the exams is super fair if you pay attention in class, specifically to the concepts he explains with examples and longer stories. He'll usually hint that these ones will be on the exam. Highly recommend Prof. McGarry, I really feel like I learned something in this class because of him.
