I am so confused by these reviews because professor morabito is the nicest and easiest teacher I have had at UMD. If you go to the lectures then you will get an A. the tests are the most straight forward tests I ahve actually ever taken and the material is super easy. I have her for 2 classes this semester and she is such a nice person and genuinely wants you to do well. The exams are actually so easy, all you have to do is take notes and go to lecture. Highly suggest, I have learned so much. |

Literally the worst. We had 2 major assignments towards the end of this semester, and I asked for feedback on both by asking questions about her rubric before submitting them about a week before the due date. However, she only told me that “I don’t look at papers”. Like… WHAT? I didn’t do well on them because of this. Also, I went over my exam answers with her during office hours but she laughed in my face every time I asked a question about the exam or its correct answers. I felt like this whole class and our grades have been dependent on her own personal opinions of our writing and style. Don’t ever take her. Like I said before, she’s the worst. |

I took 342 online this semester. Lectures were available weekly on Panopto. Assignments consisted of 5 quizzes, a short paper, an infographic, two midterms, and a final. Quizzes and exams were only available during a 12 hour period on Fridays, which is kind of inconvenient, considering the lectures are available the whole week. Quizzes and exams were more difficult than expected, there are some nitpicky questions in there. She is not flexible with deadlines and does not take into consideration technical difficulties, so be prepared to take tests in a place with a steady wifi connection. She does not allow you to see your quiz or test results unless you contact her specifically. For the short response paper, she did not provide a rubric or an explanation for any lost points. Overall, there was not much flexibility for it being an online class. If you can, try to take it in person; I think it would be more worthwhile. |

ok if you are the type of kid that does not want to go to lecture. do not take this class. you have to go to every class and take detailed notes. I think the class was super interesting and for 2 50 minute classes a week it went by so quick because the material is actually interesting. the tests are really easy there are 2 and they are each 50 multiple choice. then there is a writing assignment and the final is open notes online again multiple choice. also there is textbook and you dont actually have to read it just be able to get the information that she puts on the text guide and review it right before. she does talk quick but she sometimes ends lecture pretty early and is super organized and clear about what you need to know for the tests and everything. yes you have to go too discussion and its dumb but you can just sit there and do other work but it is mandatory. talks quick during lecture but you can always ask her to repeat what she said and she is more than happy to. |

I honestly expected to hate professor Morabito in the beginning of the semester because of her low rating - but honestly she's really great! Her teaching style is very similar to Dr Madoo if you have ever taken her - but there are some key differences. Her powerpoints generally contain less info than Dr Madoo - she also intentionally made her powerpoints with less info so that students would pay attention while she is speaking (she told us she was making this change after the 2nd exam to see if it would help students). I also feel like compared to Madoo, when she lectured it was more important content. Most of Dr Madoo's lecture material I could find in the textbook, so if I missed a lecture it didn't matter too much and she also had a tendency to ramble (she's still great too). I felt like if I was to miss Morabito's lecture, I would miss a lot of info because she talked about a lot of things that weren't in the textbook. She explains everything thoroughly and will answer any questions you have if you are confused - so don't stress about that. Another difference is that she does not provide any study guides on lecture material (Madoo did), she only provides a study guide for the textbook material so you know what to read. I think a lot of her negative reviews are because people dislike that she doesn't post slides - however this is a policy in the CCJS department that all CCJS professors follow, so it's not her fault. Her class is easy regardless of that. Just go to lecture. The class is structured so that discussion is 15%, exam 1 is 20%, exam 2 is 25%, the final exam (online, remote and open note) is 30%. All exams are multiple choice. There is one essay that is 10% and is pretty easy. I always did the readings before class and I thought it was really helpful but a lot of people don't read and still do fine in the course. Overall, this course was really easy and Morabito is a great professor! |

This class is so easy these reviews are wack. There are 3 exams first 2 are in person and the final is online and open note. This class is literally SO easy there is no reason to get below an A. You do have to attend lectures and discussions because she doesn't post the slides (you also have to take notes because you cannot take pictures of the slides) and discussions count as attendance grade. The only other grade in the grade book is a writing assignment that is SO easy. I studied the night before for the first 2 exams and got 1-2 questions wrong. I haven't taken the final yet but it's open note AND textbook. Also, I never read the textbook but I did get an online copy because there are things from the textbook on the exam that she didn't cover in lecture, but she posts a study guide before every exam so don't bother reading it until before the exam for those specific topics she tells you. Such an easy class guys do not be dumb and fail THIS ONE. |

She tends to read directly from the slides and very fast. She's also a very harsh grader and if things aren't done exactly how she likes she'll take points away, although her rubrics aren't very detailed. She's not compassionate at all to students, is very strict on missing work/lateness even if you have a school-approved excuse. Overall would not recommend anyone. |

class material is interesting enough but the proff is a stickler about certain stuff. quizzes throughout the semester were online open note with material straight from class (did not buy the textbook) BUT she doesnt post slides on canvas and expects you to take notes every class, so a friend to share notes with is recommended. overall class is straightforward with a big group project at the end. she called out someone for having airpods on in class once and is rlly annoying about citations. for an assignment, she wanted you to cite her lectures (mind you lecture slides are not on canvas) and docked points off for "wrong lecture citations" even though there is no consensus online on how tf lectures are supposed to be cited. overall, lecture is interesting enough but be prepared for an annoying professor. |

Overall, the class itself ONLINE is pretty straight forward if you watch the lectures, take notes, and do the readings. Although, if you are not a perfect student, I highly recommend taking this class with a different professor. She does not value her students well-being or learning at all. If you make a mistake, you will be penalized, some may be harsh. There are 3 exams, a few quizzes, 4 reflections, and 1 project throughout the whole semester. If you do poorly or miss 1 assignment, it will hurt your grade. The final was 50 questions and we had 1 minute to answer each question, it is open note but difficult to complete on time with confidence. As a 5th senior at UMD, she is by far the worst professor I've had. Again, easy class but if you want a professor who cares about her students, 10/10 recommend taking it in person with a different professor. |

Jessica Morabito is not that good of a lecturer and she is incredibly strict. She is very pleasant when you go up and talk to her but the second you screw up she turns into a ruthless demon. She also has a bunch of very weird rules for her assignments about how and when to turn them in so if you mess up on that you are not in luck. If you are the type of person that is on your game about due dates literally all the time then I would say its fine to take her but if you are not DO NOT TAKE HER because you will end up doing not so great in a very easy class. |

This was an online course, but it could be better. I like that she posts her lectures for the week on Panopto and you can take notes while she reads. I do not really like how she structures the class though. You can only take quizzes or write reflections on Fridays even if you have finished her lectures on Monday. And you can only take the quizzes and write reflections between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. It's just strange and I wish I could have just gotten everything for her class done in one day. But it really was not that difficult and I recommend. |

Very few grades in the class so keep that in the back of your mind. However, the quizzes are online and take home so you can use your notes. All of the questions are verbatim from the notes or textbook so should be easy to get 100% on all of them. Just copy notes down directly from slides and you won't have to worry about anything. Midterm is the same thing; online and open note. Group project is worth a large chunk of your grade but as long as you communicate with your groups its not too bad and you have several months to get it done. Attendance isn't required at all but she doesn't post lecture notes so either go to class or have somebody send you the notes every time because you'll need them. Overall, class was very interesting to me but definitely taught in a way that quickly becomes boring if the topics don't interest you. |

Giving two stars for courtesy. I took her online class and everything was pretty easy. The issue I actually have with her is the state project she had us do during midterms. The average grade for the project was a C, and that is because she was expecting us to give her specific and broad facts about certain things that she didn't even outline on the project rubric. If she said what parts she wanted specific information about and what she wanted to know in a broad sense, then there wouldn't be an average of a C for the state project. I also found it stupid even to do APA citations for a PowerPoint presentation but whatever. The biggest issue that doesn't involve myself, it involves another student. She sent them to the Office of Student Conduct because she thought that this student plagiarized, which the student didn't. Now this student has added stress for something that could have been addressed by deducting points. Her tests were easy, but it's only a minute per question. Anyways, take at your own risk. |

I had taken Professor Morabito's class last year, however I highly recommend for yall not to take her class. She is not compassionate to students, and referred a classmate of mine to the honor council for unfounded reasons. There are few opportunities to improve your grade, and I feel that she does not really care about her students. The work is not too difficult, but her policies make it harder to enjoy the course. She has zero tolerance policies for issues with technical issues with your computer, so if you have issues with that keep it in mind. Additionally, there are no study guides or information that can better help you prepare for the tests, and if you are taking the class on purpose its not open note or open book. One of the most unpleasant professors that I have taken so far, try to avoid her if you can |

Overall the class is designed relatively easy, I did very little outside work and still received a decent grade, however she isn't really a great teacher or seem to value students. First of all, she reads very fast from her slides and will not post them or allow students to take pictures, even though they seem to have very little originality to them. In addition, she has very strict policies for when assignments are to be completed, for example if you get logged out of your computer during a quiz too bad it's an automatic zero no matter what. Overall, she could probably be worse, but is far from a professor that I would recommend. |

Her class was completely fair, all you really had to do to pass the class with an A is attend every class, take notes and read the chapters she assigns. There are 2 exams and 1 final, none of which are cumulative, and they are all completely multiple choice. I personally really enjoyed this class and diving into the more theoretical side of criminology. There is also 1 paper that is written towards the end of the semester that is on one of the theories that were discussed in the class, this paper is graded and facilitated by the TA. This class was enjoyable and doesn't require much work, but it is very important that you study and at least read the text before the exams. |

Had this professor last semester but felt like I needed to leave a review. I genuinely enjoyed her class and the topics. I attended every lecture, took through notes and tried not to get on her bad side. I had her in the morning and plenty of times I witnessed students getting scolded in front of our 40+ student class. My problem with her began when we were assigned a group project 2/3 months before the deadline. A group project of 5 turned into me completing the assignment by myself. I emailed her and voiced my concerns. She seemed empathetic and told me she’s take all of my effort into consideration at the end while grading the projects. This was a VERY big project!!! Every group had at least 6 members and I had 1 person helping me….throughout this assignment I kept having problems with my group members and I’d voice my concerns to her. I think she just got tired of my emails. But to be fair this was like 30% of my final grade. She had also told us in the beginning that she’d let us grade our group members at the end but since everyone else had a helpful group she disregarded the group grades…. I was left competing this assignment by myself and I got a shitty grade for it. |

She's a fun and easy teacher. Pay attention in class and take notes and you'll almost be set. She is a teacher that adds questions straight from the reading, but it's nothing excessive or difficult. She's friendly, understanding, and has the best TAs. This class definitely feels like high school, especially discussion, and one thing is you are not allowed to take pictures or recordings of her lecture, so make sure you have a friend in that class. Barely any assignments, and papers are on easy and interesting topics. |

An incredibly straightforward and communicative professor. You won't find someone who teaches as clearly and concisely as her. The class information was incredibly interesting and I loved lectures because of it. However, we did have a group essay at the end of the year that was a bit frustrating. At least she is very involved in the process, and will force all group members to show up/put the effort in so it doesn't fall onto one person. Overall, I loved her and would definitely take any of her classes again. |

she is not nearly as bad as these reviews are making her seem, I really don't know why she's getting such bad reviews. as long as you go to all the lectures, you will be fine. she is a good teacher and a nice woman you can ask questions during lecture and after class, and she will go back to any slides you ask her to at the end of class if you missed any notes. the exams are not difficult if you attend the lectures. there are no surprises and she gives a study guide. I don't know why everyone else hated this class. I strongly recommend talking to your ta about the one essay beforehand, though. I got the worst grade on that essay that I've ever gotten before, but frankly that's on me for starting it the day it was due, and it was graded by the TA, not the professor, so that's also not on her. t is impossible for her to be a "hard grader" as everyone is saying, because literally all of the questions are multiple choice and are all from the lectures. it is a super easy class if you actually attend. |

Class is not a lot of work. Tests are fairly easy, if you study your notes you shouldn't get lower than a B. Class is 3 exams and a paper based on a theory you choose. One negative is she doesn't post her slides so if you miss class you need to find someone to send you the notes. |

First of all, she's not the worst teacher and this is not the worst class ever by a mile, so don't worry. I would say she's actually quite mid but not in a bad way. Do not fear if you have her because i think she's pretty concise. Every single class we were let out a few minutes early, sometimes up to 20 minutes early for our 50 minute lectures. The lectures may be a little dry but she just gives you the information pretty straightforward. Exams are a bit hard, just make quizlet sets to study and you'll probably be good. Discussion sections were fine as well. She's a safe choice for a professor if you're unsure who to pick/if there are conflicting times/etc. |

I am an average student and a poor test taker for context. This was an interesting class. It is mostly theory-based to get you familiar with the way crime correlates with certain factors. I currently have an 89% before the final. However the final is open note, and online, so it's possible I get an A-. She is really not bad and her TAs are a pleasure. The class is not hard if you take notes on the slides. I recommend writing digital notes because it's faster. If you prefer paper notes, make a friend so you can get what you missed in case (you most likely won't finish copying the slides on paper). There are two exams; the first one is harder than the second. I took only three hours of vigorous studying of my notes before the first test and I got a 90. The second time I did the same thing, probably less efficiently, and got a 76. ACTUALLY, review your notes before the day before the exam. Try to memorize them and you'll do well on the test. The test does correlate to your notes. This is not the worst class by any means. I'm far more confident in this class than in several of my other classes. |

The absolute worst teacher ever. She basically wants her students to fail. Not many grades go account, and it is very test heavy (only 3 exams) so if you are a bad test taker do not expect to excel. You are basically all on your own in her class. She talks really fast and if you are not a fast notetaker you are basically screwed. she does not post the slides and if you get caught taking a photo of the slides, you will be screamed at in front of the entire lecture hall. Horrid teaching style and not many assignments, so every single grade in this class counts and does not allow for off days, If you do badly on one assignment, it is almost impossible to come back from it. If you want to do well in this course, choose a different professor, you have been warned. She was the WORST professor that I have ever had. |

Absolutely awful. really hard grader. Provides absolutely no resources or study materials; no review guides, slides, or study guides. If you are not a good test taker, DO NOT take this class if she is the professor. Basically, you are on your own in her class, it is like she wants you to fail. Oh, not to mention she goes through slides pretty fast and if you are a slow note-taker you are screwed, she does not post these slides, and if you get caught taking a picture of the slides, she will scream at you in front of the whole lecture hall. I'm surprised by what I see from other reviews. She is not bad at all. As long as you take good notes, stay on top of the reading, and attend every discussion session, you'll be just fine. Exams are on paper, except for the third one, which is the final and online (open note). The first exam wasn't too hard, but the second exam was much harder because of the theories we had to memorize. Paper wasn't too hard at all. My only complaint about her is that she doesn't post the slides on ELMS. |

I'm kind of surprised by some of the reviews here. She honestly was not a bad professor at all. Her lectures were concise and clear although I wish she could have posted the slides on ELMS. As long as you take good notes and stay on top of the reading, you should be fine. The quizzes and exams are based on all of that. They really weren't hard at all. The paper wasn't that bad, and the final assignment was so easy. I only needed 30 minutes to finish it and I only lost points for ridiculously minor reasons. My only other complaint about her is that she made us do APA citations rather than MLA but otherwise, she's a pretty solid professor. |

Grades are literally three open note, online, non-cumulative exams, an essay. and discussion. Come to every class cause she doesn't upload or record her slides and jot down everything and you will do fine. As long as you follow the essay rubric and not write like a middle schooler, it wont be hard. Besides that, come to every discussion. Not a stressful class unless you are really lazy. |

I'm not sure why she has a low rating because I personally loved her. Everything was straight forward, you do have to go to every class because she doesn't post her PowerPoints. But, if you get all the information down and make a quizlet, you'll ace all quizzes and midterm. She was an easy grader on papers- I got a 100% on both. Final was a breeze. I honestly can say this was one of my favorite classes, and I'm a business major... The lectures may have been boring, but the material was interesting and she is super fair with workload and grading. I would recommend her for this course for sure! |

She reads right from the slides (she does not post them), but take notes exactly like the slides because her questions do come directly from them. Every single grade in this class counts and does not allow for off-days. The quizzes cover a lot of material; she hints at stuff that could be on there, but there is so much content for each quiz where you have to memorize all of it for a 10 point quiz. She severely downplays the intensity, at the beginning of the course, making it seem very easy. The first exam was hard. It included over 30 theories that you had to know on top of other material which ended up being more memory-based rather than testing your actual understanding. If I am being honest, I remember little to none of those theories now. For the way that her grades are set up, I wish she would drop one of the quizzes or include additional extra credit. There was only one 5 points extra credit assignment. I think overall she is a nice person but not an effective teacher. A lot of her strict policies made her come off as unapproachable. Her classes become extremely boring because of her reading directly off the slides but could incorporate a lot of participation easily. I am not disappointed with my grade in the course, but I do think there is significant room for improvement for the structure of this course. |

The class is decent. She does teach from slides so it is very easy to take notes in class. The quizzes are simple and the midterm is a multiple-choice paper. We did have a group presentation which is a 20% of your final grade which she assigns. So it can be challenging if you have a group member who does not contribute a lot. |

If she offers you extra credit, DO IT without hesitation. She does not believe in extra credit, so if she offers you a way to do it, it will help your grade dramatically. I might be on track for an A- or B+ without the extra credit holding my grade. You obviously need to work hard to keep that extra credit from being a grade buffer for only a short amount of time, but if you keep the work up and study your notes (from lecture and the textbook), the extra credit will help tremendously. |

I ended up having a pretty good experience with professor Morabito. She was truly passionate about the course and wanted her students to succeed. She was very nice and always had discussions with us that related to topics surrounding the class. The one thing I did not love was that for the 5 quizzes, she gave us 5 really big things to study (usually 3 full lectures and 2 full chapters) for a 10 question quiz that usually covered 2-3 topics. While this did help for the exams, it was stressful to study for in the moment. She never tried to trick you though; what we learned would be verbatim on the quizzes and exams. The quizzes were more stressful than the exams but if you make a quizlet and study it a few times, as well as reading over your notes 1 or 2 times through, you will be fine. |
