This was a solid class. This semester, the class was graded on two one-page reports, one in-class exercise, one final presentation, and participation. The rubrics for each of these assignments were still unclear (with regards to the previous commenter), however they were graded pretty leniently, and the effort one puts into these assignments was clearly taken into account. Nissen's lectures were definitely a bit difficult to sit through sometimes, compounded by us frequently having at least 50 pages of semi-required reading every week. However, he gave us a break during the class period and often would let us out early, so it wasn't a full three-hour slog every week. Overall, Economic Diplomacy with Nissen is not a bad choice for a Fellows course! It is not the easiest Fellows choice, but it does a great job of digging into the complex, modern issues faced by our present economic institutions.

Nissen is a super nice guy, but his inexperience as a professor definitely shows. The class is graded on 4 assignments, a final presentation, and participation. Guidelines for the assignments were always extremely unclear which made the class way more stressful, but on the bright side Nissen seemed to recognize this and graded them rather leniently, as he did with the final presentations. However, the overarching problem with this class was the TAs. In addition to both being extremely condescending, they were utterly useless when it came to questions about assignments, an example being when one of them said they "didn't know the grading criteria" DURING an oral assignment that was 10% of our grade (THEY WERE THE ONE GRADING IT.) They were also in charge of participation grades, yet they got lazy and stopped recording participation halfway through the semester, so the grades were decided off of memory/at random. It's definitely an interesting class and Nissen is a great guy, but be prepared for a class that is marketed as a free A but is significantly more stressful due to naivety from Nissan and laziness from the TAs.
