I enjoyed this professor's class. I especially loved the range of the stories and essays we read, and also looked forward to the in-class writing exercises--which were generative. The professor checked in with the class before the day's work and encouraged those with missed assignments to try catching up so their grades would not suffer. The professor also offered helpful feedback to my stories, and was generous in offering external materials (stories, film, poetry etc) that would give me a better perspective to my work. My only complain was that it was a very early morning class, which could be a lot to deal with. In all, great professor.

I did not enjoy this professor at all. He had a very strict attendance and late work policy and had a tendency to berate students if they did not show up to class. He asked for essays to be submitted a week in advance in order to review the content to send out appropriate warnings, yet at multiple times during the semester he did not actually send out proper warnings. During workshops, he would give advice or ask questions that were directly answered in the short stories, which made it seem like he did not fully read them. We were asked to submit 750 word responses to others' writing once a week in addition to extra readings and write ups of those, it ended up being about 1200 words of writing for his class per week, in addition to two 12 page short stories, revisions, and other miscellaneous submissions. His syllabus was messy, and oftentimes what was written on the assignment was different than what was written in the syllabus. He also took a long time to respond to emails, if he responded at all. I did enjoy the contents of the class however and I did feel like I improved as a writer, however I would never take a class with this professor again.
