I have some mixed feelings about this professor, but feel more positive than negative. He would change the order of lectures around mid semester and would drop topics he didn’t want to talk about, which was fine as we still learned a good amount but was a little disorganized. There were only 3 grades (from 3 exams) for the entire class, but he decided at the end of the semester to drop the lowest (so many people didn’t take the last exam). Exams short answer and he does look for very specific wording, and are only 5/6 questions. (But bonus for extra credit.) He also provided online open note options after discussing with students, which was nice. His lectures were interesting and provided insight about how fMRI became a trusted/ valid research tool from a perspective of someone working in the field as it was developing. He also had some interesting ethical discussions about what we can use fMRI for. However, when trying to engage students he would often ask questions looking for very specific answers and not give enough time for students to think before asking a “clarifying question” even more convoluted than the first. This could also lead into tangents about basic statistical analysis that didn’t have much to do with the class and most students would be familiar with already. (Taking up class time without getting into new material.) Definitely an interesting class if you know you want to get into fMRI research or are doing it already, but might be worth considering other courses if you just need to fill a credit.
