Dr. Poulin is a pretty great professor. He lectures well, and uploads his slides. I would encourage you to go to lecture, as a lot of the stuff he writes on the slides would be hard to comprehend without the context provided in class. Exams were challenging but fair. Weekly quizzes made sure you were keeping up with the class. Homeworks were more theoretical, but gave you a well rounded knowledge of energy metabolsim. |

Never had to work so hard for an A before. Got exactly the grade I needed on the final for an A in the class, and it took everything out of me during finals week to study for it. The class is very interesting and Poulin is a great teacher (and very helpful if you have questions), but the material can be daunting. Might've been an easier(ish) class if I read the textbook, but it was expensive. There is a lot to learn, but if you take the 20 mins to go over your notes and the slides after each lecture (which I should've done, but didn't), then you will be fine. Also, the material repeats itself often, and there are a lot of patterns that make it all easier to remember. Basically, you'll be fine. Also, go to office hours for the homeworks, the questions can be confusing. You will need to go to class - the slides are great study material on their own, but sometimes he says stuff during class that is very good to know for the exams. He doesn't record lectures. Overall, the class was great, and Poulin was very helpful and knowledgeable. There were three midterms, the average on all of them was about a 78% (+/- 1%). Since you're probably wondering, the grade cut-offs for my semester were: 90% for an A, 86% A-, 82% B+, 79% B, 75% B-, 60% C. |

This class was difficult and required A LOT of memorization. Every lecture was intense and it was very easy to get overwhelmed. Dr. Poulin does give old exams and would sometimes reuse old questions. It’s very important to understand and memorize mechanisms. It’s also important to go over small details instead of just glancing through notes generally. He doesn’t record lectures and you won’t be able to understand his slides without attending lectures. He also uses the textbook for his slides, so the textbook really helps with explanations. The curve was very generous with a C- being a 50, a B- being a 71, and an A- being an 81. Overall, the class was difficult but Dr. Poulin was very energetic and made the class more interesting. I enjoyed BCHM 2 a lot more than BCHM 1. |

Honestly Dr.Poulin is one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. Def top 3 in all time greatest professors I’ve had(possible even the best). Biochem 2 is probably the peak hardest class in the biochem department or at least one of the harder upper level courses. Dr.Poulin makes it SO much better and honestly if it wasn’t for him I don’t know if I would have done as well. He is extremely well versed in his subject and you can ask him almost any question and he’ll have an answer. Very approachable and extremely helpful. His teaching is really good and makes a lot of sense to me. YOU NEED TO TAKE HIM. I’m telling you will be one of the coolest and best professors you have ever had. BCHM462 can be challenging—especially if you are already taking mam phys(Bsci440) with it—I recommend taking each in separate semesters. If you have to take it, take it with Poulin I promise you will not be disappointed. |

He's a great teacher. Passionate about what he's teaching - he tends to drop random pieces off information about "interesting" information related to what we're learning. I'm sure most people in class don't really think that enzymes catalysing keto-enol tautomerization is that interesting but It's really nice watching him get so excited about. His tends to recycle old questions from past exams so go over those exams- don't just go over the answers go over the questions to and the reaction conditions from the question cause sometimes he be switching them up. I think after orgo 1, orgo 2 is more mellow cause you're kinda used to the oddity of the whole subject. IF you been through 1 you can definitely work through 2 , just study and practice a lot. I know everyone says practice, practice, practice but its true. Practising will make you more comfortable with the subject. |

He's a gem w/ understandable lectures. He gets really excited about the subject and he welcomes student feedback too. He is responsive to student concerns. Has clickers but they are for participation instead of accuracy. Also, I did better in the class when I focused on his lectures instead of the textbook. |

Wants students to learn material and clickers are for participation so they're easy points. Really nice and approachable unlike other profs. |

Hes really nice, but messes you up towards the end. Heavily based on biochemistry than organic. Didn't really know what he was doing during the first semester teaching, but ranks you at the end. |
