I would give 0 stars if possible. This class was the worst course I’ve taken at UMD, and would single handedly deter me from doing the minor all together. Pros: If she likes you/your group you will get an A. Cons: The entire class consists of constantly revising/editing one assignment. Her feedback isn’t consistent. She will want something one week, and not want that the next week. There is no guidance or assistance in selecting a topic. The first ~4-5 weeks of the class are guest lectures that are interesting to be fair. But after those five weeks, she expects you to have made significant progress on your project. She interrupts everyone, students, guest lecturers. You will be disrespected, called out, and interrupted. Assignments/tasks/feedback are purely given over elms email. |

Ambiguous grading, always talks over you in group discussions, and is very rude with giving feedback. Also super disorganized, half of the things mentioned in the syllabus don't end up being a part of the course |

Utterly disorganized Professor, with very little structure to the class. To be fair, we are the first cohort of this class, so we're the guinea pigs. Completely disregards the class time, frequently exceeding it by 30 minutes, and everyone must conform to her schedule. I think the one comment said it best that "She grades off her emotions alone." She also expresses extreme group favoritism, and your grade is pretty much determined early on. The other comments are also right to say that "Professor is very self-centered and spiteful.". Had an overall awful experience in this class, and almost wholly due to the terrible professor. Worst professor I've had in my three years so far at UMD. This is barely a capstone class, and It's a shame that 403 is the last required class of the Computational Finance minor. It's a stain in an otherwise incredible minor. |

First half of the course is several unorganized guest lectures on topics that can be barely considered research (is a 90 minute zoom demonstrating how to fine-tune a premade language model on financial data really that groundbreaking?) Which is not bad in terms of workload, because all that's expected of you is coming prepared with questions on the topic. Until halfway through the semester when she expects you to have been working on a capstone project behind the scenes with no expectations, guidance, or feedback. Then you'll get to hear a lot of backhanded remarks insinuating that your group has been lazy and unproductive, and needs to be more proactive. She'll go back and forth about what she looks for in a project; this consists of making you ditch your current approach in favor of something that she believes (knows?) will be substantially better, then backtracking a week later to tell you that approach doesn't make sense and that you should've never followed it in the first place. When she asks you to explain yourself (why did you follow the idea she gave you?), you're allotted roughly a dozen words before she talks over you and dismisses anything you had to say. Getting talked over is a main theme of this course, so if you're the type of person that likes to voice their opinion, you'll probably have a rough time. The syllabus ends up changing every week so it's not worth reading (e.g. you will have a presentation due on a certain week but she will never bring it up again after assigning it, even when you were supposed to present it. So save yourself the effort). But if you don't keep up with the ad-hoc scheduling changes that come in the form of a Canvas announcement between 4am and 5am you'll fall behind, because that's how most things are assigned. At least it'll catch your eye, because she won't hesitate to openly call you out by name in these class-wide announcements (because everyone needs to know that you submitted an assignment in the wrong format!) There's 1 or 2 homework assignments but you'll have to do them 4 times each. The first time will be with the initial instructions she gives you, and some part of it won't work. Then you'll have to email her to update the assignment accordingly and do it a second time. Then she'll throw in a few extra things she wants out of the assignment after thinking about it some more, and you'll have to do it again, but soon realize that her expectations were impractical. Finally, she'll send out an announcement a night or two before the due date with a much simpler assignment, but with most of it being open ended. So you get to do it a fourth time. This is the most interesting out of all of them because you don't know how much of the 3 pages of "suggested additions" you should implement. But by this time you'll be used to not knowing what's expected of you in the class, so you'll handle it. The class doesn't even have a scheduled time. There's a Zoom meeting at 5:15 and depending on how many tangents she goes on it could go until 6 or 7:30. So try not to make any plans on Tuesdays. She is very unaccommodating and assumes everyone else operates on her schedule (Our group was grilled the class after spring break because we didn't have any progress to show for the past week) Of course if you're lucky your experience may be different. The review below me (based on the name mentioned) is most likely part of the group that includes the TA for the class (yes the TA is also taking the class) and obviously she has some favoritism towards that group (they receive a 95 for project check-ins, while every other group gets a 75 because they "weren't clear enough"). So take it with a grain of salt. But if you happen to personally know (or be) the TA you'll have a much better time! The other courses in the BUFN program were very insightful and worthwhile, despite being disorganized (which is understandable for a new course). This "capstone" takes the disorganization to another level. Unless computational finance is your natural passion, this course by itself makes the program not worth taking. |

A wonderful professor. Great projects. I was lucky to be put in a group with the god Sashwat himself. Now I am interning at Vanguard with a full time offer from Blackrock. BUFN Rocks! |

Not nearly as bad of a professor that these reviews make her out to be. The pros of this class are the following: You have little hw, You learn skills that employers will like (SQL and Tableau), Exams are online and open note, If you show up to class you will prob get at least a B+. Cons: Lectures can get boring and exam instructions can be confusing. Yah she as a person can be a little odd sometimes but she was never mean. She seemed like she truly wanted us to succeed, and she was trying her best to make that happen. |

She's a good prof! I think she must've turned things around after the negative reviews. The class was easy and relevant, and while it's structured a bit messily (due dates/rubric for assignments unclear sometimes), it was completely manageable. You learn SQL and a bit of HTML/Tableau, which is nice for info sys students. There's also a big group project you work on for the 2nd half of the sem, but if you go to class it's fairly easy and actually really cool since it gives you a real-world experiences with SQL, HTML/CSS, and Tableau. I would recommend! |

Worst class I have ever taken in the business school. Professor is very self centered and spiteful. She sends passive aggressive emails at 2 am. She offered a hybrid class format this semester but complained every class about the people on zoom. If you asked a question she did not like else would threaten to drop your grade in exchange for the answer but encourages students to bring questions to class. I once brought a question to class and she laughed in my face and accused me of being behind in the class even though I got an A+ on the last assessment. After laughing in my face she realized she was acting like a bitch so of course around midnight she sends me a message apologizing for it but then blames it all on me. Once my "dumb" question/issue was fixed my code worked fine. So was it really a dumb question? Do not expect her to follow any kind of rubric. She grades off her emotions alone. |

Her course is a bit unorganized. She doesn't post due dates in advance or follow a syllabus. Additionally, like others have said, she lacks a bit of emotional intelligence. She will question why people are not understanding the material, or call them out via email or in class. Outside of the classroom, she was very nice and seemed to care about the future ventures of her students. The course would have probably been easier if taught by another professor. I recommend taking the course with someone else if possible. |

Worst professor I've had in my three years so far at UMD. Highly rude, condescending, and unprofessional. I was anxious to come to this class every day because she always called out people like they were stupid for not understanding a concept or making an error. Does the same thing on assignments. She wrote on one of my assignments something along the lines of, "Really, this is what you put for this answer? Obviously, this is incorrect." If you want to gain a passion for the field of information systems and you have the option, don't take any classes with Louiqa. It's a shame because she obviously is very knowledgeable but the way she presents herself completely overshadows the potential she has for being a wonderful leader and mentor in the classroom. |

The worst class I had ever taken at UMCP. If this class was not one of the requirements to graduate, I would never have signed up. The materials were challenging even for the professor(!). She does not seem to know the materials and very bad at lecturing. Most of the time she just rambled nonsense coding strategy. She seems to care for students but this doesn't help us success in this class. Do not ask for help with the In Class Assignment, they would take off points afterwards without prior disclosing this information. |

Very nice and caring professor. Louiqa is one of the few professors that send out personal emails to students on a weekly basis to make sure that they are understanding the material and making good progress on the projects. Her teaching style consists of going over PowerPoint lecture slides and posting them online for students to review. She also provides code examples for students to download, so you can see how the lecture concepts can be applied to web programming. It would be helpful if Louiqa could code some examples from scratch and explain slowly to students how everything works piece-by-piece. Contrary to previous reviews, she followed her syllabus very closely and did not make any unexpected changes to the course requirements. You should take BMGT406 with Louiqa because you will learn a great deal about web programming (HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL). To do well in the course, you must pay attention in each lecture and try to understand the concepts. Then, practice coding your own examples (be creative) to see if you truly understand the material. Only seek the TA or professor as a last resort if you are really stuck after attempting to solve the problem on your own (Google is a great resource!). |

Professor is TERRIBLE. PLEASE DO NOT BELIEVE ANY OF THE THE POSITIVE REVIEWS ABOUT HER. She is terribly unorganized and she does not have a real grasp on technology (in my opinion.) She needs to master organization skills. |

I enjoyed this class. The class is designed to provide hands on practice on web technologies. DR. Raschid has a great deal of experience and all the projects we did were not that hard at all. Besides, she and the TA were very positive and helpful and all you have to do is just ask for help. All the assignments were always briefly discussed in class and even several examples were explained. I definitely recommend this class. You will learn not only the Web but lots of related technologies and social media. |

DO NOT TAKE THIS.CLASS WITH HER. YOU WONT LEARN ANYTHING AND SHE WILL MAKE YOUR LIFE MISERABLE. The initial syllabus said that there will be only 7 programming assignments. Towards the end of the semester she suddenly decides to hold a "non-graded" assignment to determine whether the students have mastered the material since most of the students had high grades on the 7 assignments. Some of the assignments were not challenging at all and it's obvious most of the students have high grades. The problem was, it was never mentioned in the syllabus and student concerns about this non-graded assignment were never taken into consideration. Also 30% of the class grade comes from the semester project, and by the time she decided that most of the students will end up getting As for this class, we havent even started on the semester project which means, eventually everyone will get As for the semester project regardless of the quality. We did a class presentation which was supposed to be 10% of the grade, was completely taken out from the grading structure. It is not fair for her to do that after we have spent our time and efforts into that project/ presentation. Overall her teaching style sucks. This is a programming class and she just reads out the slides which does not make sense at all. She keeps on spamming our emails by sending the same email over and over again for the slightest thing. Not professional at all. After the first couple of weeks, she asks the STUDENTS of ways to make the class more interesting. With all due respect, I dont think this professor is suitable for the Smith School and if she doesn't change her teaching style and remains in the Smith School, it will just bring down the standards of the Smith School. I honestly believe that she doesn't know her material much. If not for the TA, this class would have been an utter mess. I personally did not learn anything in the class but on my own. She is a nice person but I dont think she has enough knowledge or skills to teach this class. Afterall we all are paying to learn something but I don't feel I have gotten my money's worth. |

This is a great course to get some hands-on experience with programming. The course isn't all programming; for the latter half of the semester, you get to choose a project of your liking that doesn't necessarily have to involve coding. It is an interesting combination of programming, business, and tech topics like social media. The professor and the TA are very helpful. For example, during lab sessions, if you're stuck with your code, they will come to your side and give you helpful hints (they don't just tell you to "google it"...maybe occasionally they might, if your question is easily searchable). The majority of the students in this class earned A's. It wasn't a whole lot of work, though of course, you do need to put in some time and effort, just like every other class. We did have a final extra project for this class but it was basically just a recap of the previous projects. In fact, I found that project to be easier than the previous ones. |

Good IS elective, useful course content and curriculum. You need to have good problem solving skills to get the A in this class. Html css php and mysql are skills that nobody else learns in business school. Take this course if youre interested in learning some additional technical skills. Projects are fair. |

I TOTALLY AGREE WITH THE PREVIOUS COMMENTS. ON TOP OF ALL THAT, SHE IS NOT GOOD WITH CODING AT ALL! THE TA DOES ALMOST EVERYTHING FOR HER! SHE IS NOT PREPARED, TALENTED OR CONFIDENT. SHE GIVES ASSIGNMENTS THAT ARE NOT MENTIONED ON THE SYLLABUS. FIND ANOTHER PROFESSOR OR DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HER. |

No idea what's going on in this class. It's useful in that it teaches you PHP and HTML, but seriously what happened between 2009 and 2011? Worst grading system ever. Because too many people were doing well in the class, she dealt out some randomass in-class assignment to be completed in three hours, as a skills test and weed out those who can't code quickly so that the grade distribution is more normal. There is also final project that is apparently not even graded but you have to do it anyway. I have never been so confused in my life. |

STAY AWAY THIS CLASS IS ONE OF THE MOST AGGRAVATING EXPERIENCES I HAVE HAD IN COLLEGE. SHE AND THE TA TREAT THIS CLASS LIKE A COMP SCI CLASS!!! VERY PARTICULAR IN THE CODE GRADING, WHICH IS STRAIGHT OUT OF COMPUTER SCIENCE CURRICULUM. UNLESS YOU KNOW PHP AND WEB CODING ALREADY, I REPEAT STAY AWAY. SHE ADDS ASSIGNMENTS ON TO YOUR WORKLOAD THAT ARE NOT ON THE SYLLABUS JUST TO MAKE YOUR LIFE HELL. IF YOU ARE DOING A PROJECT AND HAVE QUESTIONS, THEY TELL YOU TO GOOGLE HOW TO DO IT. ABSOLUTE WORST |

This course is really interesting and perfect for students who want to learn about web development and some of the technologies behind it. The course covers basic PHP, MySQL commands, HTML, CSS, and web security. No exams or quizzes - just projects and a technical paper that was due by the end of the semester. The projects were good to show how all of the above mentioned technologies are used in unison. Projects will be challenging if you have never done any type of programming before. If you've done web development or programming prior to this course, then this will be an easy course. Raschid is generous with grading, though. She allows the projects to be re-submittable if you want to raise your grade on any of them. The negatives about Raschid is she doesn't know much about PHP or the technologies used. She knows why and how they're used, but doesn't have syntactical understanding of PHP. This is important in 406 as a lot of students will be new to programming, thus having plenty of syntax errors in their projects. The TA (graduated '09) was excellent and pretty much ran the course. Without him, I am not sure if Raschid could effectively run the course on her own. Raschid was also abrasive at random moments. She became upset after she noticed some people habitually not appearing in class, so she made a lecture mandatory and literally said "You will not get an A grade if you don't attend this lecture." She had a sign-in sheet at that lecture. This kind of attitude put a sour vibe in the class and made her seem irrational and unpleasant. Overall, if you're looking for a course to learn more about web development/programming or want a course in your schedule with a light workload, then this might be a good class for you. |
