Professor Ray is very knowledgable in her area. Her classes were interesting but she does tend to go on tangents, but this just widens the discussion. Very flexible with reading materials and deadlines for papers (we didn't really have any official deadlines this semester other than for the final paper). Try and say at least one thing a class and she will be happier. We each had to give a presentation one class of the semester and then write 3 short papers and 1 longer final paper. Would definitely recommend her class, it was interesting and she's a pretty easy grader. |

Her discussions are very valuable and helpful when it comes to fully appreciating the text/film being analyzed. She does have a tendency to go on tangents, but it's because she is so knowledgeable. They are actually very interesting and relevant. I found myself keeping up with the readings and materials well, and she is flexible with due dates (there were no exact times when essays needed to be turned in, just a suggested schedule). You have to either raise your hand or strike at an opportunity to speak, but she values participation. If you are an active listener and contribute once or twice a class, you'll have an easier time. I would recommend and take a course from her again. |

Ray is obviously a smart and knowledgeable professor. She makes important points about novels that you may have missed. However, her classroom management is atrocious at best. She publicly berates students for their work in class, and complains about the lack of conversation in the course when she dominates it at all times. If you do not agree with her points or want to discuss what she wants to discuss, there is no space for you in this course. She's brilliant but disappointing. The kind of person you may want to hang out with, but never learn from. |
