This class was awesome and Katie was such a great professor. The workload was manageable and fair and the class was unexpectedly interesting and fun. Coming into it I didn't know it was fully an entomology class but I actually enjoyed learning some new material. It's very different than any other biology class and lab that I have taken but it was easily one of the best ones at UMD. The field trips are fun, the lab working is interesting, and the TAs were so knowledgeable. Katie made the class engaging and very chill. Her communication and organization were great throughout the semester and she was so lenient and understanding if life happened to get in the way of school. She even gave extra credit and gave us extensions on a few assignments. 11/10 would recommend Katie and this class to anyone who wants a class where you can spend some time outdoors, learn some new things about bugs and freshwater ecosystems, and bond with your classmates in a fun setting! |

DR REDING IS THE BEST!!!!! Yes she zooms through lectures but its not her fault there's so much material written into the course. She genuinely wants everyone in the class to succeed and actually takes your feedback into consideration. The exams were super fair, very straightforward and did not try to trick you. Ya they aren't "easy" this is a 400 level class, but I think probably easier than most. The field trips are a blast, the lab is a LOT of work, but your grade will be fine! There might be less time consuming labs out there but this one is made so that you succeed and is also really interesting and different. It was almost therapeutic looking at bugs under miscroscopes all afternoon. Even as a pre-dent, I learned a lot of useful information and have gained a huge appreciation for insects. Thanks Dr. Reding you rock! |

Dr Reding is a super nice professor. She is great, the class itself is fine. The lectures are kinda meh and the lab is fun with the field trips, but if you are not into looking at bugs in a microscope I could see it being a pain, but I really enjoyed it. The class is not very hard overall and Dr Reding is an angel. The exams are fair and as long as you pay attention you should be fine. |

I really enjoyed this class and Katie was an amazing professor. Agreed, it's a shame she's leaving next semester, but I do hope this class lives on! I learned so much about freshwater ecosystems and aquatic insect morphology, it was challenging but in a good way. 10/10 would recommend. |

Too bad she's leaving after this semester because this is the greatest professor you will have at UMD. I have never met a more accommodating and kind person. |
