She made it feel to the students in the class that she was doing us a favor by even being there to lecture us. There are days where she can be receptive to questions and correcting her own mistakes on the board. However, more often than not, asking questions led to the student’s question being ignored or the student being berated, often a combination of the two. The most common response was “you should already know this” or “this should have been covered in your previous course”. Or “you should figure this out from the textbook yourself”. But she would often claim that the textbook gets things wrong or she knows better than the textbook, so it’s very unclear for students to know how to learn in the course given the environment she promotes.

Absolutely terrible professor, extremely rude and harsh grader...

She has an attitude issue. The class was very stressful due to her, rather than the difficulty of the class.

This course is extremely difficult with the instructor; do not take unless absolutely required for your major/minor requirements. The content is not what makes the course hard; the instructor frequently gets into arguments with students, does not answer questions if the material has already been covered, and teaches the course in an extremely robotic manner (she expects your work to match her style exactly and does not tolerate any alternative solutions even if correct). Steer clear unless absolutely necessary.

I had a very disappointing experience in this course. The professor was often rude and dismissive toward students, frequently refusing to explain material by saying, “you should already know this.” As a result, I never felt comfortable asking questions when I didn’t understand something. Her grading was unusually harsh, with significant point deductions for very minor or seemingly irrelevant issues. Additionally, she regularly made mistakes on the board and reacted defensively when students attempted to seek clarification. One incident that illustrates the disruptive classroom environment involved her refusing to return an exam to a student, wrongly insisting they were impersonating someone else—even after verifying their student ID. Overall, the atmosphere was not conducive to learning, and I left the course feeling discouraged and less confident in my mathematical abilities due to the frequent verbal criticism in class.

One of the worst teachers I’ve had the displeasure of taking. She often fails to explain things clearly and then blames the students even if she makes the mistake. There is no regrades and no arguing, and her grading is beyond absurd. You must complete every problem exactly as she does, correct alternative solutions will yield you zero points. While the class isn’t that difficult, she makes it immensely frustrating as you can do a problem 90% correctly and make small numerical errors and get no points. The exam averages were in the 40% after curves, and while the problems are similar to the HW, she often changes the numbers in such a way that a completely different method is required to solve them. You are allowed a formula sheet, but even though she isn’t clear, she will give you a 0 on exams for the smallest dubious infractions. The final exam does replace all grades, so getting a decent grade isn’t that hard, but once again it is just not an enjoyable class. Take it if you need it for the math major, but just be prepared for a very unpleasant experience.

Professor Ren was great, the class was very challenging but I learned so much math and I came out the other side feeling very confident in my statistics ability. She is harsh with homework and test grading, but the curve is very generous, plus she's just a great professor!
