Sara Schotland HONR218P Expecting an A Anonymous 12/24/2018	Amazing, interesting, organized, and easy. I truly looked forward to this class every week I had it. Highly recommend.
Sara Schotland HONR208L Expecting an A Anonymous 03/29/2018	By far the best professor I have had at UMD. She does not have many grades, but grades fairly and it is easy to know what she wants. Class participation is VERY important, so be sure to talk in class.
Sara Schotland HONR208M Expecting an A Caroline M 04/09/2012	Best seminar I've taken so far! Professor Schotland is one of the best teachers I have ever had. She stimulates really interesting discussion and does a very good job of incorporating movies and literature in the course. She also gives summaries and excerpts from all the reading material so you don't have to read and purchase multiple novels in a short amount of time. You also still get the feel for the text and can have meaningful conversation about it. All of the assignments can be on any topic you want as long as it incorporates the overarching theme of Utopia/Dystopia. The assignments are fun and challenge your creativity. She gives As as long as the time and effort is there.
Sara Schotland Expecting an A+ Anonymous 12/14/2011	Professor Schotland is a fantastic professor. She really just wants you to share your opinion, there is never a wrong answer. The more personal connections you can make to the topic, the better. Although the class is long (2 and a half hours) and it seems like there is a lot of reading at first, she does a really good job of making the class interesting by using discussions and movies to break it up. The papers are really easy and very interesting because you can write about whatever you want. I would definitely recommend Professor Schotland and this class!
Sara Schotland Expecting an A Anonymous 12/14/2011	Another positive review (: I had Dr. Schotland for HONR268W and it was a great class. She is honestly one of the nicest professors out there. She really cares about what you take out of class and is totally understanding. We only meet once a week for 2.5 hours but she mixes it up with discussion and video clips, which are interesting. It's a long class and I must admit, I started nodding once (but that was because I didn't sleep the night before). We had two papers and a final paper/project. Very broad and up to you on what you want to write or do your project on. Readings were also easy to read and interesting. Only thing is that she's not too amazing with technology. Maybe because we had a cart this semester. She'll get a real room equipped with everything next semester though!
Sara Schotland HONR208M Expecting an A arandomuser 12/01/2011	There are a lot of positive reviews for Schotland, so this is one more. She really values positive discussion, and is more than happy to move on from an unproductive topic of conversation, so every seminar is relevant. She honestly seemed interested in the discussion herself. Grading is handled very smoothly. Show up, do the reading, do the three assignments, and she'll make sure you don't have to worry about your grade. Class readings are set up so that they don't become repetitive. Even in what I thought was a narrow and specific topic (Utopia), we read a huge range of material and watched a couple movies. Highly recommended.
Sara Schotland Expecting an A Anonymous 04/29/2011	Best honors seminar! Very interesting and not too demanding. We go over different topics of the death penalty every class and watch a movie/documentary for at least 30 mins. There's two 4 page papers on whatever topic you want on the death penalty and a final term paper. She encourages us to be creative and think outside of the box for our final paper, so for mine I'm doing a powerpoint and a painting. Best of all, you get to be informed about a relevant social topic. My opinion on the death penalty has definitely changed a lot after learning the facts. Great teacher, great material, great class!
Sara Schotland nili027 12/02/2010	Schotland is the sweetest professor. She finds really interesting sources. a third of your grade is class participation, so go to class and speak up!!! its a lot of reading, but it's very interesting. the grade relies on 3 simple papers and class participation, so don't worry about it. all she wants is for everyone to gain something from the class and do well; she is very understanding.SHe is very well connected and very helpful if this is a field you are interested in. We HIGHLY recommend her as well as this class!
Sara Schotland Expecting an A parachute111 11/16/2010	Professor Schotland is really an awesome teacher. She was professionally a lawyer, so she's really smart. She made our seminar engaging and informative. Even though the class is long (2 1/2 hours), it doesn't get boring because Professor Schotland moves the topics along, substituting movies and discussion. We cover a lot of different topics in disability and I feel a lot more informed and passionate about the topic. I would highly recommend this course!!
