HOLY BUSYWORK. This class isn't difficult, but man is it tedious. These sorting hat worksheets repeat the same five questions over and over and over again. Despite what you might have read about this course on Reddit, attendance for Anat's section is mandatory. Do NOT show up late to class or you will be punished by not being allowed onto the Zoom call. Doesn't sound so bad until you realize you have to be on the Zoom call to complete many assignments. |

Very disorganized and confusing professor. Her instructions never make sense and only confuses students more when they ask questions. |

It kind of felt like she was trying to give off the impression of being a really nice professor, but I know a lot of students in my class were a bit scared to approach her. She would unexpectedly say kind of harsh things to students. It honestly gave me anxiety just to sit in that class. Other the that, the grading did feel a bit subjective, especially when it came to participation. If you are a student athlete or travel to compete for the school, do not even bother to take this class. If you miss it, even when excused, your participation grade will bomb. If you are a student who occasionally has to work in class on other things (like me, who was working full time and needed to zone out every once in a while to answer an email during the 2.5 hour class) be prepared to feel very judged by her for it. As for the content, it was okay. I really did not learn that much. A lot of lessons kind of felt either too simple or too repetitive. There was a lot of focus on the theoretical instead of in depth technical work, which could get frustrating. |

This class was super informative and very interesting. Anat is super understanding and genuinely wants to see her students succeed. It’s clear that she cares a lot about UX design and visual communication. Homework can be lengthy but is often interesting/fun. This class is long and can get tiring but we’re given a break. I definitely recommend taking a class with her! Wonderful person and brings great warm energy to class :) |

She was a very engaging and passionate lecturer. You can tell she truly cares about her students. Workload was unexpectedly heavy/time consuming throughout the semester, and sometimes felt like busywork, but overall the course was definitely manageable. I feel like I learned a lot about design and UI/UX through these assignments even if they didn't feel necessary in the moment. Her course was very beginner friendly and she is definitely the type of person I would feel comfortable going to for extra help if I was confused on an assignment. |

She really cares about the content and the students. Grading is really relaxed, which allows you to focus on the subject! |

Went in expecting the worst, but she was actually great! Very knowledgeable about UX design and gives great points during class. I don't know what happened in past semesters but she was lovely for this semester. The class is mostly studio time for designing on Figma, brainstorming, and a final design project. |

She is an understanding and chill professor, and she is clearly very knowledgeable about UX design. This course does a great job of instilling UX principles and design thinking. However students were sometimes confused about assignments and how to use figma. A great emphasis on the theoretical but not much on the technical |

The class isn't structured well. Her lectures did not help at all with the actual visual design projects. Everything I learned about visual design I learned from my own interest and research, not from this class. The grading also makes no sense, it is so subjective even as a course meant to develop your fundamentals, and her comments on your designs clash with her TA's comments more than half the time. She's nice at the beginning, but progressively got worse as the semester went on. I don't recommend her. |

I personally did not find her lectures to be interesting, usually she would just read off of a screen and the whole class was confusing to be quite honest. |

As the others have mentioned, her lecture style was very poor and had almost no outlines/requirements for assignments, dont take her. |

While Professor Anat Szendro Sevilla (she/her) puts effort into assisting students, the overall class structure leaves many of the students question. The lecture-studio format, where she reads off prepared slides and promptly departs, lacks engagement with the students and rarely ever interacts with them throughout the class. While her feedback on presentation days is helpful, the subsequent miscommunication arises when implementing revisions. Grad TA, Anne Badt, often contradicts Professor Sevilla's suggestions, resulting in a poorly structured and frustrating learning experience. This is directly related to the grading that is done in the course, trying to adhere to someones suggestions will result in losing points due to how another may look at your project. I highly suggest to stay away from the course, there are better UI/UX design courses offer in the iSchool and this is not one of them. |

I loved this class! It was such a contrast to my STEM heavy workload. It made me designate time in my schedule to be creative. It was fun to see what everyone else came up with based on her weekly prompts. The prompts are very interesting and fun to work on. The reading assignments aren't required to succeed and some of them are very poorly written. Anat is approachable, fun, and reasonable. You are expected to give one presentation, but you can pick the artists and date you present. She pretty much grades if you are performing satisfactory or unsatisfactory. |
