Professor Shapiro has a very pleasant personality, thoroughly knows the material he’s teaching and can lecture in a way that captures interest, and makes sure the assignments are relevant to the material and encourage research and discussion on the topic. I only had a slight interest in the history of climate science and thanks to him I was much more interested by the time I turned in my final paper for the class. The sole criticism I will make is that there were a lot of assigned readings per week, and while most were interesting not all of them seemed relevant to the in-class discussions or paper prompts, nor were all of them needed to use as sources for writing papers. I really don’t have anything negative to say about Prof. Shapiro, though. If you take a class with him be prepared to participate in discussions with your fellow classmates, as he heavily prioritizes this. Prof. Shapiro was my favorite professor last semester. If you see he’s teaching something, take it!

Really great scholars instructor that connected the stem topics to social issues from a more 'istorian background. He is also super knowledgeable on historical issues that relate to technology development and is willing to learn about newer topics he doesn't know yet. He noticed what our class liked discussing and expanded on those. Justin also did a few lectures that were way way better than regular class lectures since there were no notes, it allowed for live Q&A, and was constantly engaging. Grades aren't an issue for this class, just make sure you show up on time.
