I took this class for Carillon and it was a joke. In the class, we built stuff which was kind of fun at times but Madlen Simon made the class insufferable. The class was an hour and fifteen minutes and she would probably talk for about half that to start each class. Always on some bs that was not important. Unfortunately, there were in-class reflections so attendance is mandatory if you want full credit on those (but showing up late isn't a problem as you won't miss anything in the first 30 minutes). Her canvas page was also disorganized and hard to navigate. Overall, the class itself is pretty easy; it's just a bunch of busy work that was at times unbearably tedious but shouldn't take more than an hour a week outside of class time. Her TA's were great, Sergio is the man, but even they couldn't save this boring ass class. If you have to pick between this class and a harder Carillon class I'd pick this one just because it is actually free, you just have to put up with Madlen Simon. But please just chose Art n Activism or some shit instead. |

Very nice lady and she is clearly very knowledgeable about architecture but I took this for Carillon and it was just okay. I have had an A+ the whole semester so it is easy to get a good grade if you just do the assignments which are due every Monday and Wednesday night. The class is kind of a joke, there are many times when my group and I just sat in the classroom and didn't do anything the entire time and ended up doing fine. It's sort of mind-numbingly boring to a non-architecture major, but I've heard that other Carillon classes have a lot of work and are harshly graded. I never spent more than 1-2 hours on this class per week. So if you're taking this class for Carillon then this is a good choice, but if it's just for elective credit beware that it is a little boring and annoying sometimes but easy to do well. |

IDK WTF people mean by she is a good professor because she may be the most incompetent, disorganized, strange, confusing, and backwards instructors I have had in all my years of learning. The syllabus is useless for knowing what happens in class because assignments are all bundled together and some assignments are just repeats of the previous. The lectures we have are god awful and make me want to put a bullet in my brain. This could be a good class but all the TA's have no clue what is happening. Jemimah is always on her fucking phone, Juanita is passive aggressive and power hungry, Drew is pretty cool, The other one is barely there and tries her best when she is but there is no platform of consistency in the class. We were made to buy 30 dollar cutting mats for the class (Despite that the instructors always had extras to hand out and each group only needed one) and we used them only a few times and then they went to waste. We were told halfway through the semester that we need to do the rest of our assignments on SketchUp (which you can only get through a 30 day free trial) and were then given a confusing 30 minute tutorial on how to use the program. No one knew how to use the program and it was very difficult to know what to expect for the next assignment. There were times I ask the TA for help and they don't know how to use the program or what we were assigned to do. There were other times we were told to do something and then the TA's would tell us that it is not possible to do that thing on the assignment. Our group actually tried in this class and we continually got screwed over and over again. This class is awful beyond comprehension and the professor has no idea what she is doing. Never take this class I am warning you. All I learned is how much I hate this professor and the TA's (except Drew bc he's cool as hell). There is so much pure fury in my heart right now because of this class and the way it was structured and the amount of confusion. Fuck this class and I'm sure most other people who have taken it will easily agree with me. Sincerely, An Angry fucking student |
