The professor seems nice enough. She has extensive experience in her field and is a nice lecturer. However, based on the subject of the class you would think this would be an interesting class BUT IT IS SO BORING. The class ending at 4:45pm doesn't help. She just kind of reads off of the slides and shows videos and that's it. By the end of it I try not to fall asleep |

While Professor Slaughter is a fairly kind person, she has her favorites. She will be awkward and a bit scary to talk to if you don't really know her, which is understanding, as some people are naturally introverted. However, the TA for this class was the sweetest person, and would be so helpful in assignment direction and guidance, and was also a very easy grader. The professor had very limited contact with the class outside of class-time, and the TA handled all communication and questions outside of class, and went above and beyond at her job! The professor, however, was a but stand offish, and was a bit too strict with certain things, like technology. The class itself is meant to be interesting, but she only reads off the slides, making long, boring lectures that have the potential to be so much better in terms of the content. She just needs to change her style, allow more discussions, and not make the environment so forced and boring. Otherwise, because of the TA, and aside from the boring and mandatory classes, the class was an easy A |

This class is extremely boring and if she never took attendance I probably would have never shown up. She does not understand when it comes to health coinciding with school work and tries to connect with her students but it is so clear she does not care and would 100% not recommend her class. |

I took PLCY201 in Spring 2024 as a public policy requirement in my sophomore year. Professor Slaughter is a highly qualified, intelligent, and friendly professor. She also was the first African-American professor/teacher I had ever had, she used this experience as a black woman inside the classroom. There is mandatory attendance because the class is extremely easy. I received an A, without going to class. Really good professor, boring content. |

Professor Slaughter is nice enough, but her classes are boring and uneventful. She reads off the slides for a whole hour and 30 min and calls it a day. And to be honest, most of the stuff on the slides is common sense. If you walked into the end of the semester you would think you were taking a public speaking class not a child/family policy class. The assignments were weirdly broad with no direction which is odd because Professor Slaughter expects you to write hefty content. I wrote a 5 page single spaced paper and I'm pretty sure it got glanced over and I was given a 100% purely on looks alone, there was no feedback or little opportunity for feedback during the class. The Professor was also sick + had to get surgery this semester which led her to be absent I think quite literally half the semester. One time she just simply didn't tell anyone and didn't show up. Getting Covid can't be planned, but if you had surgery scheduled then why couldn't you make a schedule for your TA to lead the class instead of us wasting class time and being left behind? I would recommend this class if you need an Easy A and you are decent at writing but the lectures need to be improved if Prof. Slaughter actually wants people to be interested in Children's advocacy |

Overall, the class can be somewhat insightful if you're interested in policymaking and advocacy. However, Professor Slaughter is very unorganized. She hasn't shown up for class multiple times without warning, she takes weeks to grade assignments and takes attendance every class. Some of the directions for the assignments are vague when they could easily be direct and upfront. She did have a medical surgery this semester so I give her some leniency but the lack of communication makes this class unenjoyable. Her lectures are just her reading off of slides which is boring but the class is a relatively easy A. |

Easy Gen-Ed but honestly a joke. No one learns, her presentations are awfully dull. Every other week you write a 3-4 paged single-spaced paper with limited guidelines and basically no requirement for sources. You have to fight hard to make up BS for the essays because the prompts mean nothing. Sweet professor but not worth your time, better off going to sleep. |

While the assignments were relatively straightforward, with 4 learning artifacts and a final paper that are evenly spaced out throughout the semester (all of which are relatively easy to get high marks as long as you demonstrate effort), the class was very boring as she read mostly off slides and many of the same people kept talking. The only interesting part of this class was the speakers we had halfway through the semester, as it applied some of the material through readings into the impacts on the real world |

Assigns so many readings it is extremely hard to keep up, has us cite in bluebook (which no one understands), reads off the slides |

Professor Slaughter is a nice woman, but her lectures are terribly boring and I have no point in attending class. She says she "hates reading off of slides" but does that the whole class. You have 4 learning artifacts and a final paper which are easy, but for a 2.5-hour class, she makes it dreadful. She definitely sees that everyone is bored and forces people to participate. |
